George Churchill (Royal Navy Officer)
Admiral of the Blue George Churchill (20 February 1654 – 8 May 1710) was an English naval officer, who served as a Lord Commissioner of the Admiralty from 1699 to 1702 and sat on the Lord High Admirals Council from 1702 to 1708. He was Member of Parliament for St Albans from 1685 to 1708, then Portsmouth from 1708 until his death in 1710. Described by his sister-in-law Sarah Churchill as "a coarse fat man...with uncommon morals", his reputation has suffered in comparison with his brothers, the Duke of Marlborough and Charles Churchill. While considered by some an effective administrator, he made many enemies and achieved high office largely due to his friendship with Prince George of Denmark, husband of Queen Anne. He died in May 1710 and was buried in Westminster Abbey, next to his sister Arabella. He never married but left the bulk of his property to his illegitimate son, George Churchill (1687–1753). George Churchill (British Army Officer)
Lieutenant-General George Churchill (died 1753) was an officer of the British Army. Early life George was the illegitimate son of Admiral George Churchill from his relationship with Mary Cooke, of whom little is known. He was thus a nephew of General Charles Churchill and the Duke of Marlborough. Career The young Churchill joined the Army as a lieutenant on 12 January 1707. He was promoted to captain in Lord Hertford's Regiment of Foot on 24 March 1712,Charles Dalton, ''English Army Lists and Commission Registers'', vol. VI (1904pp. 86–87 then transferred to the Coldstream Guards as captain and lieutenant-colonel on 28 September 1715, being further promoted to second major on 5 July 1739 and first major on 25 December 1740. He served as lieutenant-colonel of the Coldstream Guards from 1 April 1743 until appointed colonel of the 1st Regiment of Marines on 20 September 1745, a post he held until that regiment was disbanded on 11 November 1748. George Percy Churchill
George Percy Churchill CBE FSA (1877–1973) was a British historian and diplomat. Early life He was born in 1877 the son of Henry Adrian Churchill, an archaeological explorer and British diplomat. Three of his four brothers, Harry Lionel, Sidney John Alexander William Algernon were also diplomats. In 1906 he married Muriel East (d. 1968) with whom he had two sons. Career He was Oriental Secretary at the British Legation in Tehran from 1903. He could read and write in the Persian language and translated ''The Constitution granted to Persia, 30 December 1906'' and, at a date unknown, wrote ''Farhang-i rijāl-i Qājār'' In 1906 he wrote ''Biographical Notices of Persian Statesmen and Notables'' comprising an index of prominent Qajar statesmen, a collection of notes, genealogical tables, and over 300 seal impressions.
