George Anson, 1st Baron Anson
Admiral of the Fleet George Anson, 1st Baron Anson, PC, FRS (23 April 1697 – 6 June 1762) was a Royal Navy officer and politician from the Anson family. He served as a junior officer during the War of the Spanish Succession and then saw active service against Spain at the Battle of Cape Passaro, off the south tip of Sicily, during the War of the Quadruple Alliance. He then undertook a circumnavigation of the globe during the War of Jenkins' Ear. Anson commanded the fleet that defeated the French Admiral de la Jonquière at the First Battle of Cape Finisterre in 1747, during the War of the Austrian Succession. Anson went on to be First Lord of the Admiralty during the Seven Years' War. George Anson (politician, Born 1731)
George Anson (25 July 1731 – 27 October 1789), known as George Adams until 1773, was a Staffordshire landowner from the Anson family and a British Whig politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1761 and 1769. Background Anson was the son of Sambrooke Adams and his wife Janette Anson, who was the daughter of William Anson and the sister of the naval commander Admiral George Anson, 1st Baron Anson, and the dilettante Thomas Anson. Public life As George Adams, Anson was elected Member of Parliament for Saltash when his uncle died in 1761, a seat he held until 1768. He was returned to Parliament as one of two representatives for Lichfield in 1770, a seat he held until his death. In 1773, on the death of his uncle Thomas Anson he succeeded to the Anson estates, including the family seat of Shugborough Hall. He assumed by sign manual the surname and arms of Anson. George Edward Anson
George Edward Anson (14 May 1812 – 8 October 1849) was a British courtier and politician from the Anson family. Anson was the son of the Very Reverend Frederick Anson (1779–1867), Dean of Chester, son of George Anson and the Honourable Mary Vernon, daughter of George Venables-Vernon, 1st Baron Vernon. Frederick Anson was his brother. He served as Keeper of Her Majesty's Privy Purse, Treasurer of the Household to HRH Prince Albert, Treasurer and Cofferer of the Household of HRH the Prince of Wales, a member of the Council of the Duchy of Lancaster and of the Prince of Wales's Council for the Duchy of Cornwall. Anson served as private secretary to Prince Albert, and was frequently employed on diplomatic missions for the Prince. He was married to the Honourable Georgiana Mary Harbord, who was a Woman of the Bedchamber to the Queen and sister of Edward, Third Lord Suffield. George Henry Greville Anson (20 February 1820, in Marylebone – 9 February 1898, in Winchester) was a clergyman and member of the Anson family. He was Rector of St James's, Birch-in-Rusholme and served as Archdeacon of Manchester from 30 May 1870 to 1890. The son of Sir William Anson, 1st Baronet, he was educated at Eton College and Exeter College, Oxford and ordained in 1843. After a curacy at Leeds Parish Church he was, for many years, the incumbent at St James, Rusholme, retiring from the posts of Rector, and Archdeacon of Manchester, in 1890. George Edward Anson (27 September 1850 – 15 July 1934) was a New Zealand cricketer and medical doctor from the Anson family. Family George Anson was born in Sudbury, Derbyshire, England, on 27 September 1850. His father was Frederick Anson, Canon of Windsor, and his uncle was George Edward Anson, private secretary to Prince Albert. His mother was formerly the Hon. Caroline Vernon, a member of the Vernon family of Sudbury and Hilton. His maternal grandfather was the fifth Baron Vernon. George was the third of fourteen children. He married Margaret Greenstreet, a New Zealander, in Christchurch, New Zealand, on 19 October 1891. They had three sons and a daughter. The third creation is extant and is held by a member of the Anson family.
