''Geoff and Judy'' was a short-lived television variety series which aired in 1959 on Melbourne television station GTV-9. Hosted by Geoff Corke and Judy Jack, the series aired at 1:00PM on Tuesdays. The obscure series is largely notable for pairing two then-popular figures in Melbourne television. At the time, Australian series tended to be aired on a single station only, something that would change in the 1960s. Kinescope
Kinescope , shortened to kine , also known as telerecording in Britain, is a recording of a television program on motion picture film directly through a lens focused on the screen of a video monitor. The process was pioneered during the 1940s for the preservation, re-broadcasting, and sale of television programs before the introduction of quadruplex videotape, which from 1956 eventually superseded the use of kinescopes for all of these purposes. Kinescopes were the only practical way to preserve live television broadcasts prior to videotape. Typically, the term can refer to the process itself, the equipment used for the procedure (a movie camera mounted in front of a video monitor, and synchronized to the monitor's scanning rate), or a film made using the process. ABV is the call sign of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's television station in Melbourne, Victoria. History The station began broadcasting on 19 November 1956 and is transmitted throughout the state via a network of relay transmitters. HSV is a television station in Melbourne, Australia. It is part of the Seven Network, one of the three main commercial television networks in Australia, its first and oldest station. It launched in time for the 1956 Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne. HSV-7 is the home of Australian Football League, AFL coverage. The HSV building (also known as 'Broadcast Centre Melbourne') was the network's operations hub, where the Master Control Room was located, controlling all metropolitan and regional feeds. Geoff Corke
Cuthbert Geoffrey Corke (30 December 1934 - 1 May 1993) was an Australian radio and television presenter. He became one of the first people to appear on television in Melbourne when he introduced GTV-9's test transmissions in 1956. Early life Corke was born at St George's Hospital in the Melbourne suburb of Kew on 30 December 1934. At the age of three months, he relocated with his parents to Papua New Guinea where his father managed a rubber plantation near Port Moresby. He and his parents returned to Melbourne when they were evacuated back to Australia from Papua New Guinea after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941. After returning to Melbourne, Corke began attending South Auburn Primary School and then Scotch College. Career Corke developed a strong interest in the media in his youth.
