Gentlemen Of The Night
''Gentlemen of the Night'' (, , also known as ''The Masked Avenger'') is a 1964 Italian-French adventure film directed by Pino Mercanti and starring Guy Madison and Lisa Gastoni. Plot Massimo returns to Venice after years of fighting against the Turks. He finds his beloved Elena, who in the meantime has married the doge who is tyrannizing the city. Despite the disappointment, he becomes interested in the beautiful Katarina. He decides to lead the group of rebels after a close friend of his is killed under torture for having hatched a plot to eliminate the doge. Pino Mercanti
Giuseppe Mercanti, best known as Pino Mercanti (16 February 1911 – 3 September 1986), was an Italian film director and screenwriter. Life and career Born in Palermo, Sicily, Mercanti was a pioneer of the Sicilian cinema as the leading filmmaker and the artistic director of the production company O.F.S. (a.k.a. Organizzazione Filmistica Siciliana), founded by the brothers Francesco and Girolamo Gorgone with the purpose of promoting the production of films on Sicilian soil. Following the bankruptcy of the company, Mercanti moved to Rome, where he directed a number of melodramas, adventure films, Spaghetti Westerns and other genre films, often international co-productions. He was sometimes credited as Joseph Trader. A doge ( , ; plural dogi or doges; see #Usage, below) was an elected lord and head of state in several Italy, Italian city-states, notably Republic of Venice, Venice and Republic of Genoa, Genoa, during the medieval and Renaissance periods. Dina De Santis
Bernina De Santis (21 October 1932 – 4 December 1985) was an Italian actress. Life and career Born in Ronciglione, as a child De Santis won a beauty contest and at young age she started working for the advertising industry and on stage. She made her film debut in 1954 in the melodrama ''Lacrime d'amore'' directed by Pino Mercanti, who suggested her stage name. She was very active in adventure films, Spaghetti Westerns, peplum and Eurospy films, sometimes credited as Dina De Saint. She retired from acting in the late 1960s. Pietro Gradenigo
Pietro Gradenigo (1251 – 13 August 1311) was the 49th Doge of Venice, reigning from 1289 to his death. When he was elected Doge, he was serving as the podestà of Capodistria in Istria. Venice suffered a serious blow with the Fall of Acre, the last Crusader stronghold in the mainland, to the Mamluks of Egypt in 1291. The war between Venice and Genoa began in 1294, and Venice sustained some serious losses: it lost a naval battle; its possessions in Crete were pillaged; and the Byzantine emperor, Andronikos II, arrested many Venetians in Constantinople. In response, the Venetian fleet sacked Galata and threatened the imperial palace of Blachernae, but in 1298 they lost again - this time at Curzola. Eventually, in 1299 the two republics signed a peace treaty. Gastone Moschin (; 8 June 1929 – 4 September 2017) was an Italian stage, television and film actor. Career Born in San Giovanni Lupatoto (Veneto), Moschin graduated from the Accademia Nazionale di Arte Drammatica Silvio D'Amico and then began his career in the 1950s as a theatre actor, first with the Teatro Nazionale di Genova, Teatro Stabile in Genoa and then with the Piccolo Teatro di Milano in Milan. Marcello Fondato (8 January 1924 – 13 November 2008) was an Italian screenwriter and film director. He wrote for 46 films between 1958 and 1986. He also directed ten films between 1968 and 1992.
