Hits Radio East Midlands is an Independent Regional Radio station based in Nottingham, England, owned and operated by Bauer Media Audio UK as part of the Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to the East Midlands. As of September 2024, the station has a weekly audience of 157,000 listeners according to RAJAR. History Radio 106 Radio 106 launched at 6am on Tuesday 23 September 1997 as the East Midlands’ Independent Regional Radio station. Billed as ''Radio for Grown Ups'', with an advertising campaign on Central TV for the launch, and an episode of Central TV's '24 hours' in 1998 documented the launch and the relaunch of the station, the station was launched by ex-Radio Trent managing director Ron Coles with former Centre Radio MD Ken Warburton as programming controller. Digital Audio Broadcasting
Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) is a digital radio international standard, standard for broadcasting digital audio radio services in many countries around the world, defined, supported, marketed and promoted by the WorldDAB organisation. The standard is dominant in Europe and is also used in Australia, and in parts of Africa and as of 2025, countries using DAB/DMB, 55 countries are actively running DAB broadcasts as an alternative platform to analogue FM. DAB was the result of a European research project and first publicly rolled out in 1995, with consumer-grade DAB Radio receiver, receivers appearing at the start of this millennium. Initially it was expected in many countries that existing FM broadcasting, FM services would switch over to DAB, although the take-up of DAB has been much slower than expected. Border Radio Holdings
ITV Border, previously Border Television and commonly referred to as simply Border, is the Channel 3 service provided by ITV Broadcasting Limited for the England/Scotland border region, covering most of Cumbria and Dumfries and Galloway, the Scottish Borders and parts of Northumberland. The TV service previously covered the Isle of Man from 26 March 1965 until 15 July 2009. Border Television was taken over by Granada plc in 2001 and a year later, as part of a network-wide re-launch, the name Border Television was dropped from on-air presentation, continuity and idents before networked programming in favour of the national ITV1 brand (ITV1 Border was used before regional programming). The Arrow (radio)
The Arrow was a British digital radio station playing classic and contemporary rock music. It broadcast on DAB Digital Radio (in London) and was also streamed over digital satellite TV and online. The station was operated by Global; prior to Global's formation it was owned by their predecessor Chrysalis Radio. Changes and relocations Launched in July 2001, The Arrow was at one point presenter-led, with programmes hosted by DJs (though usually voicetracked rather than live). There were also hourly news bulletins and the ability to opt out for local travel bulletins. Heart Network
Heart is a network of thirteen independent adult contemporary radio stations in the United Kingdom, broadcasting a mix of local and networked programming, although only the stations in Scotland and Wales still have their own shows. Ten of the stations are owned and operated by Global, while the other three are owned and operated under separate franchise agreements. The national version of the network is widely available on Global Player, Freeview, Sky, Freesat, Virgin Media and Digital One DAB. Heart West Midlands is a regional radio station owned and operated by Global as part of the Heart network. It broadcasts to the West Midlands. History Heart began broadcasting to the West Midlands on Tuesday 6 September 1994, as 100.7 Heart FM, becoming the UK's third Independent Regional Radio station, five days after Century Radio in the North East and Jazz FM North West. The first song to be played on 100.7 Heart FM was ''Something Got Me Started'' by Simply Red. Its original format of "soft adult contemporary" music included artists such as Lionel Richie and Tina Turner. Reflecting this, its early slogan described the station as being "100.7 degrees cooler". Its programming format was modified in 1996, a year after Chrysalis launched Heart 106.2 in London. Chrysalis Group was a UK media company that was founded by Chris Wright, chairman, and Terry Ellis. Wright was named in '' Sunday Times Rich List 2009'' of the 1,000 richest persons in the UK. Previously having interests in television, books and radio, Chrysalis now focuses on the areas of music publishing, music recording, artist management and entertainment product distribution. The music branch includes The Hit Label, Echo and Papillon Records. The television arm was sold to All3Media in 2003. Sam Pinkham is an English radio and television presenter. He previously presented radio programmes for Virgin Radio UK, Magic Radio, Heart and Gem 106. He has more recently been a cover presenter on BBC Radio 2 and he currently hosts popular TV series Holiday Homes In The Sun on Channel 5 with Amanda Lamb and JB Gill Sam Pinkham hosts ''The Sun'' online bike blog. It broadcast to South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire, West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, the East Riding of Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire. Capital London is an Independent Local Radio station owned and operated by Global Media & Entertainment as part of its national Capital (radio network), Capital Network. As Capital Radio it was launched in the London area in 1973 as one of Britain's first two commercial radio stations. Its brief was to entertain, while its opposite number, LBC, London Broadcasting (LBC), was licensed to provide news and information. In search of a larger audience in 1974, Capital Radio rapidly moved from a general and entertainment station with drama, features, documentaries and light music to a more successful pop music-based format. David Lloyd (broadcaster)
David Lloyd (26 February 1961) is an English radio presenter and a former radio executive. Biography Lloyd began his radio career in December 1977 on Nottingham Hospitals' Radio, from which he had previously been turned away for being too young. He joined Radio Trent in 1980. At Trent, Lloyd presented the weekday afternoon show, and later, the mid-morning show, after Dale Winton left the station. Following a spell in junior management as presentation co-ordinator, he then moved to Leicester Sound as deputy programme controller in 1987 and subsequently as general manager. During this time, Lloyd also presented the weekday morning show and was its programme controller. In 1988, he oversaw the split of the FM and AM frequencies which saw Leicester Sound's AM signal switch to the new GEM AM service, and its FM signal remain as Leicester Sound, albeit under the name of 'Sound FM'.
