Gedsted Parish
Gedsted is a small town in Himmerland with a population of 874 (1 January 2025), located in Gedsted parish. The town belongs to the municipality of Vesthimmerland Municipality and is located in the North Denmark Region. The town is located on a hillside near Louns Bredning around 10 km south of Farsø. Gedsted's annual town party is organized by the Cooperative Associations and is called "Gedeskæg". The town also have a school Gedsted school. History Gedsted has played a role as a traffic hub from the Viking Age. Probably there has been a bridge over Lerkenfeld stream already from the year 1000-1100. It is said that Canute IV of Denmark also known as Canute the holy, in about 1090, tried to gather a viking army to regain England, and to raise money, he raised the kingdom and collected taxes from the peasants. Aggersborg
Aggersborg is the largest of Denmark's former Viking ring fortress, and one of the largest archaeological sites in Denmark. It is located near Aggersund on the north side of the Limfjord. It consists of a circular rampart surrounded by a ditch. Four main roads arranged in a cross connects the fortress center with the rampart's outer ring. The roads were tunneled under the outer rampart, leaving the circular structure intact. Many archaeological excavations have been conducted on the site, revealing its original structure and design. These excavations also uncovered a large number of artefacts from the Iron Age and Viking Age. The surface of the site as it exists today is a reconstruction. The location was originally the site of an Iron Age village which was removed during the 10th century to allow for the construction of the ring fortress. Saint Ursula
Ursula (Latin for 'little she-bear') was a Romano-British virgin and martyr possibly of royal origin. Eric VI Menved (1274 – 13 November 1319) was King of Denmark (1286–1319). A son of King Eric V and Agnes of Brandenburg, he became king in 1286 at age 12, when his father was murdered on 22 November by unknown assailants. On account of his age, his mother ruled for him until 1294. Regency Eric Menved's rule was a central period during the "Age of Decay" in Denmark 1241–1340. His early reign – during which he was led by his mother and her German relatives – was affected by the unrest and wars that followed the murder of his father.
