Gary And The Hornets
Gary and the Hornets was a Franklin, Ohio based garage rock band who were known for their single " Hi Hi Hazel". History The band's first single was their version of " Hi Hi Hazel" which slipped into the Billboard Hot 100 charts at #96. Gary was eleven, Greg was fourteen and Steve was seven at the time they recorded their first material in 1966. This was followed by "There's a Kind of Hush" (titled "Kind of Hush" on their version) that was a local and regional hit; it also "bubbled under" the Billboard charts at #127. The brothers recorded three more singles in 1967 and 1968. They also appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1967 singing a cover of "Devil With a Blue Dress On." Franklin, Ohio
Franklin is a city in Warren County, Ohio, United States, along the Great Miami River. The population was 11,690 at the 2020 census. The city lies about southwest of Dayton and northeast of Cincinnati. Ohio State Routes 73, 123 and 741 pass through Franklin, while Interstate 75 is routed to the east side of the city. History Franklin was founded by General William C. Schenck, in 1796. The settlement was named for Benjamin Franklin. Franklin was incorporated in 1814, and became a city in 1951. "Hi Hi Hazel" is a song first released by soul band Geno Washington & the Ram Jam Band as a single in July 1966. A version by rock band the Troggs was released as a single in July 1967, and both were minor hits in the UK. Background and release "Hi Hi Hazel" was written by songwriting duo Bill Martin and Phil Coulter. After joining publishing company KPM Music, the two managed to get a number of their songs recorded as album tracks for a range of artists like Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich, Los Bravos and Ken Dodd. However, prior to "Hi Hi Hazel", they had yet to write a hit single. Originally called A Day in the Life, their lineup currently consists of JT Woodruff (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Matt Ridenour (bass, backing vocals) and Mark McMillon (lead guitar, unclean vocals).
