Garfield Gets A Life
''Garfield Gets a Life'' is a 1991 animated television special based on the '' Garfield'' comic strip written by Jim Davis. It features Lorenzo Music as the voice of Garfield. The special was first broadcast May 8, 1991 on CBS. It was nominated for Outstanding Animated Program at the 43rd Primetime Emmy Awards. It was the final in the series of twelve Garfield television specials, in spite of the success of '' Garfield and Friends'' as CBS cancelled new animated specials in 1990. It is the only CBS ''Garfield'' special directed by John Sparey instead of Phil Roman, although the latter served as producer. Unlike the other ''Garfield'' specials, despite the title, ''Garfield Gets a Life'' focuses mainly on Jon rather than the titular fat cat. Odie only appears twice in this special. Julie Kathleen Payne is an American television, film and stage actress who, in a career lasting over four decades, has specialized primarily in comedy roles as well as voice acting. She was a cast member in three short-lived network sitcoms during 1983–1986, and appeared in about twenty feature films and over a hundred episodes of TV series as well as providing voices for scores of TV animated shows. Garfield is a fictional cat and the protagonist of the comic strip of the same name, created by Jim Davis. The comic strip centers on Garfield, portrayed as a lazy, fat, and cynical orange tabby Persian cat. Jonathan Q. Arbuckle is a fictional character from the '' Garfield'' comic strip by Jim Davis. He also appears in the animated television series '' Garfield and Friends'' and ''The Garfield Show'', two live-action/ CGI feature films, and three fully CGI films. ''Am I Cool or What?'' is an album featuring songs inspired by the American comic strip ''Garfield'' created by Jim Davis. It was released on July 3, 1991, by GRP Records in cassette tape and compact disc format. The genre is primarily R&B and contemporary jazz. The album features appearances by influential contributors to the genre, including B. B. King and The Temptations. It peaked at number 23 on the ''Billboard'' charts for top contemporary jazz albums. Three of the songs ("Long 'Bout Midnight", "Here Comes Garfield" and "Up on a Fence") were originally recorded for the soundtrack to ''Here Comes Garfield'', with the former two appearing in the special itself. Two other songs ("Shake Your Paw", "Monday Morning Blues (Blues for Mr. G)") appeared in ''Garfield Gets a Life'', which also used the melody of "Spare Time" for its opening theme. ''Garfield and Friends'' is an American animated television series based on the comic strip ''Garfield'' by Jim Davis. The show aired on CBS as part of its Saturday morning children's lineup from September 17, 1988 to December 10, 1994. The show features animated story lines adapted from the comic strip ''Garfield'' and Davis's other comic strip '' U.S. Acres''. Mark Evanier was the show's head writer. Lorenzo Music provided the voice of Garfield the cat, the strip's title character, as he had done since ''Here Comes Garfield'' in 1982. Other voices present on the show included Thom Huge as Jon Arbuckle, Garfield's human owner, and Gregg Berger as Odie the dog. Berger and Huge also respectively voiced Orson Pig and Roy Rooster in the ''U.S. Acres'' segments. 121 episodes were made, each consisting of two ''Garfield'' segments and one ''U.S. Acres'' segment.
