Gangota
Gangotri or Gangota is a community from Bihar. Most are cultivators or landless agricultural labourers, while some of them hold lands. Their name is said to be derived from the Ganges, near where many of the community have settled. They are the descendants of Rishi. Gangota is the descendant of Jahnu Rishi. The descendants of Jahnu Rishi are the people of Gangotri or Gangota caste who are superior in their clan and lineage. In ancient times, people of this caste were religious. They used to keep a big Shikha (turban) in the shape of a cow's hoof. Mostly people who believe in Ramanandi ideology are found in this community. The community is now listed as an OBC caste at the Centre and an EBC (Extremely Backward Caste) caste in Bihar. In Old Purnia district, Madhepura district a large number of Gangotri community members were Bataidars, or subtenants. 2022 Bihar Caste-based Survey
The 2022 Bihar Caste Based Survey was notified by the Government of Bihar on 6 June 2022 by gazette notification after a Supreme Court ruling. The survey was conducted in two phases, house listing and caste and economic enumeration. The data collection for the survey began on 7 January 2023 and the data was released on 2 October 2023. The responsibility to conduct the survey was given to the General Administration Department (GAD) of the Government of Bihar. The government planned to collect the data digitally by mobile application named Bijaga- ''Bihar Jaati Adharit Ganana''. Gopal Mandal
Narendra Kumar Niraj (born 15 August 1964) commonly known as Gopal Mandal is an Indian politician from Bihar. He is a member of Janata Dal (United). He is a four time member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from Gopalpur Assembly constituency in Bhagalpur district. He is considered as a staunch supporter of chief minister Nitish Kumar. He has served as Member of Bihar Legislative Assembly for four terms, winning the Assembly elections consecutively from 2005 to 2020. Early life and education Mandal is from Gopalpur, Bhagalpur district, Bihar and is a member of backward Gangota caste. He is the son of late Jago Mandal.
