Mainpuri district () is one of the Districts of Uttar Pradesh, districts in the Agra division of Uttar Pradesh, India. Mainpuri town is the district headquarters. Bewar is a town and nagar panchayat in Bhongaon tehsil of Mainpuri district, Uttar Pradesh. Historically the seat of a ''pargana'' and tehsil, it today serves as the seat of a community development block. As of 2011, Bewar had a population of 23,729, in 4,202 households. Name Local folk etymology derives the name "Bewar" from the ber plant, hence the local pronunciation "Berwar".
