Galaxy (Australian Television)
Galaxy is a former provider of pay television programming in Australia via satellite and wireless cable (microwave) delivery methods. Galaxy was founded in 1993. Galaxy operated: *A National Centre (purposely built-now Lockheed Martin Australia) *A purpose-built Production Studio based in Pyrmont Sydney (subsequently operated by Channel 10). *Installation service Centres located in each state. Galaxy began test broadcasting on 1 January 1995 via microwave transmission, making it the first provider of pay-TV services in the country. It was officially launched on Australia Day (26 January). At launch only two channels were fully operational, the local Premier Sports and international news channel ANBC. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is the chief competition regulator of the Government of Australia, located within the Department of the Treasury. TV1 was an Australian subscription channel. The station closed on 31 December 2013, along with its sister channel SF (Australia), SF. It was replaced on 1 January 2014 by TV Hits (Australian TV channel), TVH!ts. History TV1 launched as part of the original Galaxy (Australian television), Galaxy line-up. The channel was jointly owned by Sony Pictures Television and CBS Studios International (CBS Corporation), and NBCUniversal (Comcast). Showtime Movie Channels was a group of Australian pay-TV movie channels, available on the Foxtel, Optus and Austar TV platforms. The service consisted of five original channels (showtime premiere, showcase, showtime action, showtime comedy, showtime drama), three HD simulcasts (showtime premiere HD, showcase HD, showtime action HD) and two timeshift channels (showtime two, showcase two).
