Galaxian
is a 1979 fixed shooter arcade video game developed and published by Namco. The player assumes control of the Galaxip starfighter in its mission to protect Earth from waves of aliens. Gameplay involves destroying each formation of aliens, who dive down towards the player in an attempt to hit them. Designed by company engineer Kazunori Sawano, ''Galaxian'' was Namco's answer to '' Space Invaders'', a similar space shooter released the previous year by rival developer Taito. ''Space Invaders'' was a sensation in Japan, and Namco wanted a game that could compete against it. Sawano strove to make the game simplistic and easy to understand. He was inspired by the cinematic space combat scenes in '' Star Wars'', with enemies originally being in the shape of the film's TIE Fighters. ''Galaxian 2'' (also written as ''Galaxian II'' ) is a handheld electronic game that was released in 1981 in the United States, US by Entex Industries. It was also released the same year in Japan under the name ''Astro Galaxy'' and in Europe under the name ''Astro Invader''. The game was also released under the Futuretronics brand in Australia. is a 3D rail shooter video game developed and published by Namco. It was originally a theme park attraction designed for the International Garden and Greenery Exposition (Expo '90) in Japan, and was later released as an arcade game in 1992. The game involves players controlling a starship named the Dragoon in its mission to destroy Cannon Seed, a superweapon set to destroy what is left of the human race. An entry in the ''Galaxian'' series, ''Galaxian3'' was conceived following Namco's success with motion-based arcade games in the late-1980s, such as ''Final Lap'' and ''Metal Hawk''. The attraction version, housed in a massive circular room and supporting 28 players, was designed by company engineer Shigeki Toyama. ''Astro Wars'' is an electronic table top game made in Great Britain in 1981 by Grandstand under licence from Epoch Co., who sold the game in Japan as ''Super Galaxian'' (スーパーギャラクシアン), and in the United States as ''Galaxy II''. The game originally used a red logo on the housing; it was later switched to white. LA Galaxy, also known as the Los Angeles Galaxy, are an American professional soccer club based in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The Galaxy competes in Major League Soccer (MLS), as a member of the Western Conference. The club began play in 1996 as one of the league's 10 charter members. The Galaxy were founded in 1994 and are owned by Anschutz Entertainment Group (also owners of 50% of the Los Angeles Kings, as well as an interest in the Los Angeles Lakers). In their early years, the club played its home games at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Since 2003, they have played at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
