Gabbar Singh (character)
Gabbar Singh is a fictional character and the antagonist of the 1975 Bollywood film '' Sholay''. It was written by the duo Salim–Javed, consisting of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. Played by Amjad Khan, he is depicted in ''Sholay'' as a dacoit with an evil laugh much like "El Indio", the robber, from the Western film ''For a Few Dollars More'', who leads a group in looting and plundering the villages in the region of Ramgarh. He has a sadistic personality and insists on killing whenever required to continue his status and to take revenge on his enemies. The character is considered to be one of the most iconic villains in Indian cinema. He was featured in the 1991 spoof '' Ramgarh Ke Sholay'', with Khan portraying a parody version of the character. ''Sholay'' (, ) is a 1975 Indian Hindi-language action-adventure film directed by Ramesh Sippy, produced by his father G. P. Sippy, and written by Salim–Javed. The film is about two criminals, Veeru ( Dharmendra) and Jai (Amitabh Bachchan), hired by a retired police officer ( Sanjeev Kumar) to capture the ruthless dacoit Gabbar Singh ( Amjad Khan). ''Gabbar Singh'' is a 2012 Indian Telugu-language action comedy film directed by Harish Shankar. The film is a remake of the 2010 Hindi film '' Dabangg'' and stars Pawan Kalyan and Shruti Haasan. The plot follows a police officer who embarks on a mission to take down a corrupt politician. Devi Sri Prasad composed the film's music and Jayanan Vincent was the cinematographer. ''Sardaar Gabbar Singh'' is a 2016 Indian Telugu-language action comedy film directed by K. S. Ravindra, based on an original story and screenplay by Pawan Kalyan. A sequel to '' Gabbar Singh'' (2012), it stars Pawan Kalyan reprising his role from the previous film alongside Kajal Aggarwal and Sharad Kelkar (his Telugu debut). Gabbar Singh Gujjar (1926 — 13 November 1959) was a dacoit active in the late 1950s in the Chambal valley of north-central India. Gabbar Singh was born in Dang village, Madhya Pradesh, India. He joined the Kalyan Singh gang in 1955 and later formed his own gang, committing a series of crimes in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. In 1959, a ₹50,000 reward was placed on his head, the largest at the time for a wanted criminal in India. Gabbar instilled fear in several regions, as described by Khusro Faramurz Rustamji, then Inspector General of Police. Gabbar Singh died in a gunbattle with police in the Bhind district.
