G. Keith Funston
George Keith Funston (October 12, 1910 – May 15, 1992) was an American businessman who served as president of Trinity College, Hartford, from 1945 to 1951 and president of the New York Stock Exchange from 1951 to 1967. Early life Funston was born on October 12, 1910, in Waterloo, Iowa, and spent most of his youth in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, after moving there in 1915. He was the son of Genevieve (née Keith) Funston and Dr. George Edwin Funston, a dentist turned small-town banker. He graduated from Trinity College in 1932, as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, president of the senior honor society and the class valedictorian. While at Trinity, he worked as a chauffeur to then president, Remsen Brinckerhoff Ogilby. He graduated from Harvard Business School in 1934. American Radiator And Standard Sanitary Corporation
American Standard Companies was a manufacturer of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, plumbing fixtures, and automotive parts. The company was formed in 1929 through the merger of the American Radiator Company and Standard Sanitary Manufacturing Company forming the American Radiator and Standard Sanitary Corporation. The name was simplified to American Standard in 1967. The company was broken up in 2007 with the spin off of the automotive parts business as WABCO Vehicle Control Systems and sale of the plumbing fixtures business as American Standard Brands. The remaining business was renamed Trane, which continues to build HVAC systems under the American Standard name. Sanibel is an island and city in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 6,382 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The island, also known as Sanibel Island, constitutes the entire city. It is a barrier island—a collection of sand on the leeward side of the more solid coral-rock of Pine Island. Most of the city proper is at the east end of the island. The War Production Board (WPB) was an agency of the United States government that supervised war production during World War II. President Franklin D. Roosevelt established it in January 1942, with Executive Order 9024. The WPB replaced the Supply Priorities and Allocations Board and the Office of Production Management. The WPB directed conversion of companies engaged in activities relevant to war from peacetime work to war needs, allocated scarce materials, established priorities in the distribution of materials and services, and prohibited nonessential production.
