Rik Offenberger (born January 30, 1964) is an American comic book journalist and publicity agent, an early utilizer of the Internet for distributing comics news, and the public relations coordinator of Archie Comics. Career Offenberger started his career in comics as a retailer at Paper Hero Comics in Chino, California. He began writing for the ''Comics Buyer's Guide'' in March 1992, where he covered stories about retailers to help promote the comics shop. Following work on the ''Comics Buyer's Guide'', he began working for the British '' Borderline Comics Magazine'' until it was discontinued. This was followed by a move to the Internet, where he worked as an interviewer and senior feature editor at '' Silver Bullet Comic Books'' (now ''Comics Bulletin''), conducting interviews with comics professionals. Norwalk, California
Norwalk is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 102,773 at the 2020 census. Founded in the late 19th century, Norwalk was incorporated as a city in 1957. It is located southeast of downtown Los Angeles and is part of the Greater Los Angeles area. Norwalk is a member of the Gateway Cities Council of Governments. Norwalk's sister cities are Morelia in the Mexican state of Michoacán, and Hermosillo, in the Mexican state of Sonora. Independent Comics
Alternative comics or independent comics cover a range of American comics that have appeared since the 1980s, following the underground comix movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Alternative comics present an alternative to mainstream superhero comics which in the past have dominated the American comic book industry. They span across a wide range of genres, artistic styles, and subjects. Alternative comics are often published in small numbers with less regard for regular distribution schedules. Many alternative comics have variously been labelled as post-underground comics, independent comics, indie comics, auteur comics, small press comics, new wave comics, creator-owned comics, art comics, or literary comics. Michael Netzer
Michael Netzer (; born 9 October 1955) is an American-Israeli artist best known for his comic book work for DC Comics and Marvel Comics in the 1970s, as well as for his online presence. Early life Michael Nasser (later Netzer) was born in Detroit, Michigan, U.S. His father was Adel Nasser a-Din, a Druze doctor of philosophy who worked most of his life in a Ford factory. His mother, Adele Ghazali, is a daughter to a Druze-Lebanese father and a Jewish-Lebanese mother who settled in New York in the 1920s. He contracted polio at the age of eight months which partially paralyzed his left hip and leg. After two years of medical treatment, he was sent with his mother and siblings to his father's Druze hometown, Dayr Qūbil in Lebanon. In 1967, at the age of 11, he returned to Detroit. James Ian Flynn (born May 31, 1982), also known by his Internet pen name Ian Potto, is an American-Canadian comic book writer. He was chief writer for Archie Comics's ''Sonic the Hedgehog'' since issue #160, after the departure of the previous chief writer Ken Penders, until Archie's cancelation on the run at issue #290. As of April 4, 2018, he is the lead writer of IDW Publishing's ''Sonic the Hedgehog'' comic series. He has also helped write the games '' Sonic Frontiers'' and '' Shadow Generations''. Bob Almond (born January 4, 1967) is an American comic book inker whose credits include the Marvel Comics publications '' Warlock and the Infinity Watch'', ''Black Panther'' and '' Annihilation: Conquest: Quasar''. Almond is also known for his spearheading of the Inkwell Awards to honor comics inkers. Early life Almond became interested in comics by age nine. As a young teen he began drawing the independent comic book ''Torpedo Comics'', with his friends and his brother Mike. He majored in illustration at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and graduated in 1990 with a BFA in Illustration. Beau Smith (born December 17, 1954, in Huntington, West Virginia) is an American comic book writer and columnist, best known for his work for DC Comics, Image Comics, IDW Publishing and as vice president of marketing for Eclipse Comics. Career Early career A lifelong resident of West Virginia, Smith is a graduate of Marshall University in journalism. Smith got his start in the comics field as a letterhack, having written over 400 letters to various comics, and actually was solicited to send letters based on early preview copies. Smith's first professional comics writing job was with Pacific Comics, but the company went out of business prior to publishing the story.
