Future Of The Royal Navy
Future planning of the Royal Navy's capabilities is set through periodic Defence Reviews carried out by the British Government. In July 2024, the newly elected Labour Party (UK), Labour Government launched a Strategic Defence Review that is to be released in the first half of 2025. Defence Secretary John Healey is to oversee the review. In November 2024, the government announced the first results of that review which involved the retirement of the Navy's Albion-class landing platform dock, Albion-class assault ships, one frigate as well as two Wave-class tanker, ''Wave''-class replenishment vessels from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary by March 2025. In June 2025, initial recommendations of the Strategic Defence Review (2025), Strategic Defence Review were released, along with an announcement by the government that it would aim to incrementally increase the strength of the Royal Navy's fleet submarines to up to 12 boats starting in the latter 2030s. Rosyth
Rosyth () is a town and Garden City in Fife, Scotland, on the coast of the Firth of Forth. Sea Ceptor
The CAMM (Common Anti-Air Modular Missile) is a family of surface-to-air missiles developed by MBDA UK for the United Kingdom. CAMM is derived from, and shares some common features and components with, the Advanced Short-Range Air-to-Air Missile (ASRAAM), but with updated electronics, a soft vertical launch system, and an active radar homing seeker. Type 45 Destroyer
The Type 45 destroyer, also known as the D or ''Daring'' class, is a class of six guided-missile destroyers built for the United Kingdom's Royal Navy in the early 21st century. The class is primarily designed for anti-aircraft and anti-missile warfare and is built around the PAAMS (Sea Viper) air-defence system using the SAMPSON Active electronically scanned array (AESA) and the S1850M long-range radars. Type 83 Destroyer
The Type 83 destroyer is a proposed class of guided-missile destroyers which is planned to enter service with the United Kingdom's Royal Navy in the mid-to-late 2030s. HMS ''Northumberland'' was a Type 23 frigate of the Royal Navy. She was named after the Duke of Northumberland. Type 23 Frigate
The Type 23 frigate or Duke class is a class of frigates built for the United Kingdom's Royal Navy. The ships are named after British Dukes, thus leading to the class being commonly known as the Duke class. The first Type 23, , was commissioned in 1989, and the sixteenth, was commissioned in June 2002. Strategic Defence And Security Review 2010
The Strategic Defence and Security Review 2010 was announced by the formed Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government of the United Kingdom in May 2010, and published on 19 October 2010. The previous major review of UK defence strategy was the Strategic Defence Review, published in 1998, and updated in 2003 by the '' Delivering Security in a Changing World'' white paper. As well as wanting an updated security policy, both the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats wanted the £38 billion overspend in the Ministry of Defence (MoD) procurement budget addressed.
