Fuqua School is a private primary and secondary school located in Farmville, Virginia. Founded in 1959 as Prince Edward Academy, a whites-only segregation academy, the school was renamed after businessman J. B. Fuqua made a large contribution to the school in 1993. History After the United States Supreme Court ruled in ''Brown v. Board of Education'' that public education must be racially integrated, the Prince Edward County school board closed all of its schools, appropriating no funds whatsoever for public schooling in Prince Edward County for the fall of 1959. Fuqua School was initially founded in 1959 as Prince Edward Academy in response to pending integration, part of a strategy known as massive resistance. The Duke University Fuqua School of Business (pronounced ) is the business school of Duke University, a Private university, private research university in Durham, North Carolina. Fuqua Farm is a historic farm property at 8700 Bethia Road in rural Chesterfield County, Virginia. The property, now about , was farmed by members of the Fuqua family from the 18th to the 21st century, and includes a vernacular 18th-century farmhouse. The farmhouse now includes elements of two structures that were joined about 1905; in addition to the farmhouse there are also early 20th-century outbuildings, including a chicken house, garage, and shed. Richard Fuqua (born November 11, 1950) is an American former college basketball stand-out who is best known for being an All-American in 1972 while playing for Oral Roberts. He is a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee and attended Riverside High School prior to college. Between 1969 and 1973, Fuqua scored 3,004 points in a 111-game career. He averaged 31.8 points per game (ppg) as a sophomore, 35.9 ppg as a junior and 27.1 ppg for his career. In 1971–72, Fuqua's junior season, he finished second in the nation in scoring. Since Oral Roberts University did not gain NCAA Division I status until 1971 and because the school was an Independent (not affiliated with an athletic conference), Fuqua's career points and average totals do not go down in the men's basketball record books as Division I accomplishments. John William Fuqua (born September 12, 1947), nicknamed "Frenchy", is an American former professional football running back who played from 1969 to 1976, for the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL) and the New York Stars of the World Football League (WFL). Biography John Fuqua was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 12, 1947. A 1965 graduate of Detroit's Eastern High School, Fuqua played college football at Morgan State University and was drafted in the eleventh round of the 1969 NFL/AFL draft by the New York Giants. Ivan William Fuqua (August 11, 1909 – January 14, 1994) was an American athlete, a gold medal winner in the 4 × 400 m relay at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He was a sophomore at Indiana University and was IU’s first Olympic Gold Medalist. Their team set a world record that stood for 20 years. He was inducted into the IU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1988. Fuqua was born in Decatur, Illinois, and graduated from Brazil High School in Brazil, Indiana, where he set multiple track and field school records. He then went on to play football and excel in track and field at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. Biography Fuqua was an AAU champion in 400 m in 1933 and 1934.
