Froedtert Health is a not-for-profit health care system with headquarters located in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. The system has six hospitals in Wisconsin including Froedtert Hospital. History In 2000, after nine months of negotiations, Froedtert and Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin merged to form a new holding company, Froedtert & Community Health. The hospital would be renamed Froedtert Menomonee Falls in 2019. In September 2010, Froedtert Health acquired six ProHealth Care locations in Menomonee Falls, Germantown and Hartford. Kurtis Froedtert
Kurtis Froedtert (September 8th) was an American industrialist and benefactor from Milwaukee. Early life and education Froedtert was born June 3, 1887 in the basement of a building near 6th and Vliet Street in Milwaukee (his parents insisted on a midwife-assisted birth, feeling that such events were too intimate for doctors). He attended the German-English Academy and the Michigan Military Academy, graduating the latter as valedictorian in 1904. Career Taking over the malting company Froedtert originally planned to attend medical school, and was offered a scholarship to the University of Chicago; but his father's health problems compelled him to stay close to home. He took over the family's malt company, the Froedtert Malting Company (later Froedtert Grain and Malting) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1915 after his father's death, and remained at its head until his death. Wauwatosa (; known informally as Tosa; originally Wau-wau-too-sa or Hart's Mill) is a city in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 48,387 at the 2020 census. Wauwatosa is located immediately west of Milwaukee, and is a part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. It is named after the Potawatomi Chief Wauwataesie and the Potawatomi word for firefly. History The lush Menomonee Valley of the Wauwatosa area provided a key overland gateway between the rich glacial farmland of southeastern Wisconsin and the Port of Milwaukee. Froedtert Hospital , located in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, is a teaching hospital and a Level I adult trauma center, one of two such facilities in Wisconsin.
