Friendly Fire During The Gaza War
In specific cases there were incidents of friendly fire in the Gaza war. The vast majority of casualties in the conflict were killed by the opposing side, i.e. Israelis killed by Palestinian militants and Palestinians killed by the Israeli military. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), as of May 2024, 49 of the 278 Israeli soldiers killed during the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip were killed by friendly fire and in other accidents. Background Friendly fire incidents were seen before the Gaza invasion and the 7 October attacks, with a non-commissioned officer shot and killed by IDF troops in Summer 2023 while securing an alley way in Jenin with the elite Egoz commando unit. Friendly Fire
In military terminology, friendly fire or fratricide is an attack by belligerent or neutral forces on friendly troops while attempting to attack enemy or hostile targets. Examples include misidentifying the target as hostile, cross-fire while engaging an enemy, long range ranging errors or inaccuracy. Kissufim
Kissufim () is a kibbutz in the northwestern Negev desert in Israel. Located adjacent to the Gaza Strip at an altitude of 92 meters above sea level, it falls under the jurisdiction of Eshkol Regional Council. In it had a population of . History The village was established in 1951 by Zionist youth movement members from the United States and South America. One of the founders of the kibbutz was Ami Saull, who was born in Manhattan 1932 (nephew of Israel Galili and father of filmmaker Dror Shaul). Channel 13 (Israel)
Channel 13 () is an Israeli free-to-air television channel operated by Reshet Media. It was launched on 1 November 2017 as one of two replacements of the outgoing Channel 2. History Israel's Channel 2 was operated by the Second Authority for Television and Radio, but was programmed by two rotating companies, Keshet Media Group and Reshet. Alumim Massacre
On 7 October 2023, dozens of Hamas militants attacked Alumim, a kibbutz close to the border fence with the Gaza Strip, as part of the surprise attack on Israel. There were 41 Thai and Nepalese foreigners working at the kibbutz. The militants killed between 16 and 17 of these workers and kidnapped between five and eight of them. The kibbutz's security team were too far away and unable to save the employees. The militants did severe structural damage to the Kibbutz's dairy farming operation. After heavy fighting, the security team were able to push the militants back with the help of the Israel Defense Forces and police. No deaths among the remaining civilian population of the kibbutz were reported, although one Israeli civilian who had fled to the kibbutz after escaping the Nova music festival massacre was killed by the defenders in a case of mistaken identity. Alumim
Alumim () is a religious kibbutz located in the northwestern Negev desert in southern Israel, near the Gaza Strip. The kibbutz was founded in 1966 by members of Bnei Akiva. It falls under the jurisdiction of Sdot Negev Regional Council. In it had a population of . During the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel by Hamas, there was a massacre at the kibbutz, with 22 workers from Thailand and Nepal murdered and 2 kidnapped. Bhipin Joshi from Nepal is still a hostage in Gaza. History Alumim was established in 1966 as a border settlement with Egypt by Bnei Akiva members from a Nahal gar'in. Its land had belonged to the Religious Kibbutz Movement since the 1940s and was previously farmed by kibbutz Be'erot Yitzhak, which was relocated as a result of its destruction in the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. Re'im Music Festival Massacre
On 7 October 2023, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian nationalism, Palestinian nationalist political organization Hamas, initiated a October 7 attacks, sudden attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip. 2023 Gaza War Ceasefire
A temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza Strip took effect from 24 November 2023 to 30 November 2023, during the Gaza war. Nir Oz Massacre
On 7 October 2023, as part of the 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel, surprise attack on Israel, Palestinian militants from the Gaza Strip, led by Hamas, invaded the Nir Oz kibbutz in Southern District (Israel), southern Israel. Be'eri Massacre
On 7 October 2023, in the opening attacks of the Hamas-led 7 October Hamas-led attack on Israel, October 7 attacks on Israel, Hamas militants carried out a massacre at Be'eri, an Israeli kibbutz near the Gaza Strip. Hundreds of Gazan militants and civilian looters attacked the kibbutz, killing and abducting civilians while facing resistance from armed residents.
