Fremantle Football Club's drafting and trading history is often cited as a reason for their poor on-field record; the club took eight years to reach a final, and won their first final in 2006. In recent years, however, they have been successful in finding good players with late round and rookie list selections. Phil Smart was the recruiting manager at Fremantle from when they were formed in 1994 until 2008, remaining at the club until the end of 2009 as their draft manager, with Brad Lloyd being appointed the national recruitment manager. Smart was the Claremont Football Club colts (under 19) coach in 1994, and wasn't appointed until near the end of the 1994 WAFL season on 1 September 1994, just 2 months before the team started training. Fremantle Football Club
The Fremantle Football Club, nicknamed the Dockers, is a professional Australian rules football club competing in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's elite competition. The team was founded in 1994 to represent the port city of Fremantle, a stronghold of Australian rules football in Western Australia. Todd Ridley
Todd Ridley (born 11 February 1969) is a former Australian rules footballer. He played mainly as a full forward. He is notable for kicking Fremantle Football Club's first goal in the AFL. AFL career During his seven years in the Australian Football League he played for three clubs, Essendon, Fremantle and Hawthorn. Injuries restricted him to only 48 games in this time. He played in Fremantle's inaugural game in the AFL on 1 April 1995 vs Richmond at the MCG and scored the team's first ever goal. After he retired from the AFL he returned to the WAFL, but instead of returning to Claremont, where he had won the Simpson Medal in the Tiger's 1996 premiership, he instead switched to Subiaco. Steven King (footballer)
Steven King (born 22 November 1978) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Geelong Football Club and St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He is currently serving as Senior Assistant Coach at the Gold Coast Suns Football Club. AFL career Geelong Debuting as a 17-year-old with Geelong in 1996, King was a gifted ruckman. He won All-Australian selection and won the Carji Greeves Medal in 2000 and again in 2002. He was captain of the club between 2003 and 2006. Chad Morrison
Chad Morrison (born 29 March 1978) was an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League. Drafted to the West Coast Eagles as a compensatory pick in the 1995 Pre-Season Draft, Morrison made his debut as an eighteen-year-old in Round 1 against Fremantle in 1996, after staying in Melbourne to finish year 12 studies in 1995. Dropped twice after two games, he continued to force his way back into the side and with great late form, the half-back/half-forward flanker picked up an AFL Rising Star nomination. Jason Norrish (born 26 January 1972) is a former Australian rules footballer. Norrish played as a defensive midfielder and began his football career at the Claremont Tigers. Early career Norrish grew up in Bunbury where he attended Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School. He represented WA in the State Schoolboys national championships before moving to Perth to attend Hale School. Stephen O'Reilly (born 9 November 1972) is an Australian rules footballer, who mainly played as a full back. He was educated at Aquinas College, Perth. WAFL career He initially played for Swan Districts in the WAFL before being drafted to Geelong in the AFL with selection 9 in the 1991 National Draft. As was common at the time, O'Reilly decided against moving to Geelong immediately and instead remained at Swan Districts for the 1992 season. Geelong career In 1993 he made the move east and played in 12 games in his debut season. In 1994 he only missed one game and was a member of Geelong's losing grand final side. Peter Travis Mann (born 7 September 1970) is a former Australian rules footballer. who played a total of 118 matches in the AFL for the North Melbourne and Fremantle Football Clubs. In Australian sport, the best and fairest award recognises the player(s) adjudged to have had the best performance in a game or over a season for a given sporting club or competition. The awards are sometimes dependent on not receiving a suspension for misconduct or breaching the rules during that season. In the Australian Football League (AFL), the Brownlow Medal is awarded to the player who, provided he has not been suspended during the season, receives the most votes from the umpires for being the Fairest and Best player in games during the home and away season. Benjamin Thomas Allan (born 15 October 1968) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Hawthorn Football Club and Fremantle Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL), and for the Claremont Football Club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). Scott Lucas (born 30 December 1977) is a former Australian rules footballer for the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League, and is noted as the other major forward for the Bombers along with Matthew Lloyd. Matthew James Lloyd (born 16 April 1978) is a former professional Australian rules footballer, who played for the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL).
