Freightliner Group
Freightliner Group is a rail freight and logistics company headquartered in the United Kingdom. It is owned by Brookfield Corporation, Brookfield, a Canadian investment management company and GIC (sovereign wealth fund), GIC, a Singaporean sovereign wealth fund. It was originally created after the Transport Act 1968 as Freightliner Limited, a British government-owned company. From its onset, Freightliner was focused on the haulage of international traffic, thus came to centre its activities around Britain's sea ports, often building new multimodal freight depots adjacent to such locations to better capture this business. During the late 1970s, it was reorganised under British Rail, and became a part of its Railfreight Distribution subsidiary during the late 1980s. British Rail Class 57
The British Rail Class 57 is a type of diesel locomotive that was remanufactured from Class 47s by Brush Traction of Loughborough between 1998 and 2004. The Class 57 was produced in response to an order placed in November 1997 by the recently privatised freight operator Freightliner. The company sought to have its ageing Class 47s rebuilt, some of which had become increasingly unreliable and uncompetitive in comparison to new-build counterparts. Accordingly, redundant locomotives were handed over to Brush, where they were fitted with re-conditioned Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) engines and the same model of traction alternator as that fitted to the Class 56 heavy freight locomotive. ISO 668
ISO 668 – Series 1 freight containers – Classification, dimensions and ratings is an ISO international standard which ''nominally'' classifies intermodal freight shipping containers, and standardizes their sizes, measurements and weight specifications. The current version of the standard is the Seventh edition (2020), which integrates version ''E''. Richard Beeching, Baron Beeching (21 April 1913 – 23 March 1985), commonly known as Dr Beeching, was a physicist and engineer who for a short but very notable time was chairman of British Railways. Conflat
Conflat is a United Kingdom railway term for a short wheelbase flat wagon container wagon. British Railways used several standard types of wagon. The Conflat A, which could carry one type 'B', or two type 'A', containers, was the most common. It was regularly used to carry AF (frozen food) containers: while the Conflat L, which could carry three smaller containers for bulk powders, was also produced in large numbers. The Conflat B wagon could carry 2 AFP (frozen food) containers. These were slightly wider than the standard AF containers, and were designed to carry loads on pallets.
