Frederick Townsend Ward
Frederick Townsend Ward (; November 29, 1831September 22, 1862) was an American sailor and soldier of fortune known for his military service in Imperial China during the Taiping Rebellion. Early life and education Ward was born in Salem, Massachusetts on November 29, 1831. Ward was rebellious in his youth, so his father removed Ward from school in 1847 and found him a position as second mate on the ''Hamilton'', a clipper ship commanded by a family friend. Another version is that Ward demanded to leave school. Life at sea proved difficult. Ward was given authority over many "old salts." He was thrown overboard after complaints that he gave too many orders for a youth. Captain William Allen recalled that Ward possessed traits of "reckless daring," but was on the whole a valuable officer. Frederick Wordsworth Ward (1835 – 25 May 1870), better known by the self-styled pseudonym of Captain Thunderbolt, was an Australian bushranger renowned for escaping from Cockatoo Island, and also for his reputation as the "gentleman bushranger" and his lengthy survival, being the longest-roaming bushranger in Australian history. Early years Frederick Ward was the son of convict Michael Ward, ("Indefatigable" 1815) and his wife Sophia, and was born in 1835, the youngest of ten around the time his parents moved from Wilberforce, New South Wales to nearby Windsor. Ward entered the paid workforce at an early age, and was employed at the age of eleven by the owners of "Aberbaldie Station" near Walcha, New South Wales as a "generally useful hand" although he remained with them for only a short time. Frederick William Ward
Frederick William Ward (5 April 1847 – 1 July 1934) was an Australian journalist, newspaper editor and Methodist minister. Ward was born in New Zealand the fourth son of the Rev. Robert Ward, a Primitive Methodist clergyman and was sent to Brisbane, Australia around 1867 as a Methodist minister. He was then sent to Newcastle, New South Wales but resigned in 1869 and then joined the Wesleyan Church. In 1876 Ward left the ministry and became a journalist. In 1877 he edited the Wesleyan ''Weekly Advocate'', then from 1879 to 1884 edited ''The Sydney Mail'' and the ''Echo'' 1883 to 1884. From 1884 to 1890, Ward was editor of ''The Sydney Morning Herald''. He was later editor of ''The Brisbane Courier'' until he resigned in 1898 when he was appointed leader-writer for the Melbourne ''Argus''. Frederick Ward (Australian Politician)
Frederick Furner Ward (11 May 1872 – 31 December 1954) was a businessman, socialist, union official and politician in South Australia. Born in Bowden, South Australia to Eliza née Sheils and Frederick Rousseau Ward a miller. He was educated at state schools before becoming a clerk, accountant and commercial traveller. He rose to be the manager of a timber, iron and furniture business. A founding member of the South Australian Labor Party, he was a member or official of various trade unions, playing a prominent role in the Port Adelaide Trades and Labor Council and the United Trades and Labor Council. He was elected secretary of the South Australian branch of the Labor Party in 1923 and would hold the role until 1944. Frederick Ward (cricketer)
Frederick Ward (31 August 1881 – 28 February 1948) was an English first-class cricketer, who played one match for Yorkshire County Cricket Club against the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in 1903. He also played for the Yorkshire Second XI (1903), Northallerton and District (1903) and Yorkshire Cricket Council (1903-1912). Born in Heckmondwike, Yorkshire, England, Ward was a slow left arm orthodox spin bowler, who bowled twelve overs for 16 runs without taking a wicket. He scored a duck in his only first-class innings. There was no play on the first two days of the match, and the game was moved from the main ground at Lord's to the nursery ground on the third day, to allow a day's play to take place. Fred Ward (30 January 1895 – 10 September 1953), commonly known as Yaffa or Yaffer Ward, was an English professional footballer who made 245 appearances in the Football League playing for Lincoln City (in three separate spells), Wigan Borough and Rochdale. He played primarily at left back. Personal life Ward was born in 1895 in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, a younger son of Samuel Ward, an engine fitter, and his wife Elizabeth. Frederick Charles Ward (1900–1990) was a furniture and interior designer in Australia. Ward worked with native wood in his long career. His designs were installed in the creation of the Australian National University campus, in his capacity as first head of the design unit. Frederic Ward Putnam (April 16, 1839 – August 14, 1915) was an American anthropologist and biologist.
