Fred Waring
Fredrick Malcolm Waring Sr. (June 9, 1900 – July 29, 1984) was an American musician, bandleader, choral director, and radio and television personality, sometimes referred to as "America's Singing Master" and "The Man Who Taught America How to Sing". He was also a promoter, financial backer and eponym of the Waring Blendor, the first modern electric blender on the market. Waring was elected Shepherd (president) of The Lambs in November 1939, succeeding William Gaxton. He led the theatrical club until 1942. ''The Fred Waring Show'' is an American old-time radio musical variety program. It was broadcast in a variety of time slots from February 8, 1933, until October 4, 1957, and was heard at different times on American Broadcasting Company, ABC, CBS, NBC, and the Blue Network. The program was sometimes called ''Chesterfield Time'' or ''Pleasure Time''. Musician Fred Waring starred in the shows, which featured his orchestra and chorus. An article in the trade publication ''Broadcasting & Cable, Broadcasting'' described Waring's programs on radio (and later on television) as featuring "friendly banter with his crew, plus renditions of old-time favorite songs and ballads by the chorus and vocalists." Tyrone, Pennsylvania
Tyrone is a borough in Blair County, Pennsylvania, United States, located northeast of Altoona, on the Little Juniata River. Tyrone was of considerable commercial importance in the twentieth century. It was an outlet for the Clearfield coal fields and was noted for manufacturing paper products. There were planing mills and chemical and candy factories. In 1900, 5,847 people lived here; in 1910, 7,176; and in 1940, 8,845 people resided here. The population was 5,477 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Altoona, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was named after County Tyrone in Ireland.
