Fred E. And Elaine Cox Clever House
The Fred E. and Elaine Cox Clever House at 417 Sherry Way, Cherry Hill, New Jersey, was designed by architect Louis Kahn. The Clevers commissioned Kahn to design it in 1957 after seeing his influential Trenton Bath House; it was completed in 1962. It is one of only nine built houses designed by Kahn, who is best known for designing institutional buildings. In early 2015, the Clever house, having fallen into serious disrepair was listed for sale. Structure In the center of the house is a spacious living room, around which are grouped five smaller rooms, each with its own pyramidal roof. The living room itself is capped by a complex roof composed of four large angular structures that look something like four oversize gables that meet in the center. Louis Kahn
Louis Isadore Kahn (born Itze-Leib Schmuilowsky; – March 17, 1974) was an Estonian-born American architect based in Philadelphia. After working in various capacities for several firms in Philadelphia, he founded his own atelier in 1935. While continuing his private practice, he served as a design critic and professor of architecture at Yale School of Architecture from 1947 to 1957. From 1957 until his death, he was a professor of architecture at the School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania. Kahn created a style that was monumental and monolithic; his heavy buildings for the most part do not hide their weight, their materials, or the way they are assembled. He was awarded the AIA Gold Medal and the RIBA Gold Medal. At the time of his death he was considered by some as "America's foremost living architect." Trenton Bath House
The Trenton Bath House is a pivotal, influential design by the architect Louis Kahn, with the help of his associate, renowned architect Anne Tyng, at 999 Lower Ferry Road, Ewing Township, Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It is neither in Trenton, New Jersey, nor is it a bath house, but the so-called "Trenton Bath House" commands attention from architectural historians around the world. Designed as part of a larger plan (never executed) for the Jewish Community Center of the Delaware Valley, the "bath house" opened in 1955 and served as the entrance and changing area for patrons of an outdoor swimming pool. Anne Tyng
Anne Griswold Tyng (July 14, 1920 – December 27, 2011) was an architect and professor. She is best known for having collaborated for 29 years with Louis Kahn at his practice in Philadelphia, PA, Philadelphia. She served as a professor at the University of Pennsylvania for 27 years, teaching classes in Urban morphology, morphology. She was a fellow of the American Institute of Architects and an Academician of the National Academy of Design. She is the first woman licensed as an architect by the state of Pennsylvania. Youth Tyng's parents, Ethel Atkinson (née Arens) and Walworth Tyng, were from old New England families. They were living as Episcopalian missionaries in China when, in 1920, Tyng was born in Lushan District, Lushan, Jiangxi province.
