Fraser's Million Dollar Pier
Fraser's Million Dollar Pier was a 20th-century amusement park in Ocean Park, Santa Monica, Ocean Park, California in the United States. The pier was located between Pier Avenue and Marine Street, in a community situated between Santa Monica, California, Santa Monica and Venice, Los Angeles, Venice in Los Angeles County. Developed by Alexander R. Fraser, a booster in Ocean Park who had formerly been business partners with Abbot Kinney of Venice, the pier opened to the public on June 17, 1911 and was destroyed September 3, 1912 in a catastrophic fire that spread into the adjacent neighborhood and destroyed six to eight square blocks. The pier was also known as the Fraser Pier and the Ocean Park Pier; both names were also applied to a second pier built on the same site that stood from 1913 to 1924. Abraham Wesley Eager (1864–1930) was a Canadian-born American architect. He designed many houses in Los Angeles, California. Early life Abraham Wesley Eager was born in 1864 in Hamilton, Ontario, Hamilton, Canada West. He moved to California in 1887, and settled in Los Angeles, California in 1901. Career Eager designed the Auditorium (Torrance High School), Auditorium in Torrance, California, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. With Sumner Hunt and Silas Reese Burns, he designed the private residence of William G. Kerckhoff located at 1325 West Adams Boulevard, Exposition Park (Los Angeles), Exposition Park, Los Angeles in 1908–1909. Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters (PTC) is one of the oldest existing roller coaster manufacturing companies in the world. Based in Hatfield, Pennsylvania, it was established in 1904 by Henry B. Auchy and Chester Albright under the name Philadelphia Toboggan Company. The company manufactured carousels, wooden roller coasters, toboggans (roller coaster cars) and later, roller coaster trains. History The Philadelphia Toboggan Company was incorporated on January 20, 1904. It built and designed roller coasters until 1979. Notable designers included Joe McKee, John A. Miller, Herbert Schmeck, Frank Hoover, and John C. Allen. Venice Miniature Railway
The Venice Miniature Railway was a long miniature railway in the List of scale model sizes, 1:3 scale with a gauge of , which was in operation from July 30, 1905, to February 13, 1925, in Venice, Los Angeles, Venice near Los Angeles in California. Location Trips on the loop track started at the locomotive shed at the corner of Lake Avenue and El Camino Real (now Venice Boulevard and Abbot Kinney Boulevard) in a clockwise direction along Mildred Avenue towards the Business District. There the trains looped around the Post Office and again followed Mildred Avenue, until they crossed several canals on Riviera and Rialto. Finally, they turned sharply onto Washington Boulevard.
