Franz Baader (ice Hockey)
Franz Baader was a German referee and linesman. He is a member of the German Ice Hockey Hall of Fame. He was the referee during Game 6 of the 1972 Summit Series, played between Canada and the Soviet Union. During the same Series, Baader was embroiled in some controversy, because of the choice of officials for Game 8. The German Ice Hockey Hall of Fame, also called Eishockeymuseum in German, was founded in 1988 and is located in Augsburg. 1972 Summit Series
The Summit Series, Super Series 72, Canada–USSR Series (russian: Суперсерия СССР — Канада, Superseriya SSSR — Kanada), or Series of the Century (french: Série du siècle, Séries of the Century), was an eight-game ice hockey series between the Soviet Union and Canada, held in September 1972. It was the first competition between the Soviet national team and a Canadian team represented by professional players of the National Hockey League (NHL), known as ''Team Canada''. It was the first international ice hockey competition for Canada after they had withdrawn from such competitions in a dispute with the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). Ove Dahlberg
Ove Dahlberg (12 April 1931 – 9 January 1997) was a Swedish ice hockey and soccer official. Having previously played a forward position in ice hockey, Dahlberg is considered one of the greatest European referees for his ability to read the game. He was inducted posthumously into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2004 and into the Swedish Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012. Career Dahlberg was born on 12 April 1931 in Surahammar, Sweden. He grew up as childhood friends with Ronald Pettersson, who also played hockey and was eventually inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Dahlberg played ice hockey before beginning his refereeing career. He began as a forward before transitioning to defence. He played for Surahammars IF in the then-highest Swedish league Hockeyettan before making his Sweden national ice hockey team debut in 1954. Josef Kompalla
Josef "Jupp" Kompalla (born 13 March 1936 in Katowice) is a retired German ice hockey referee. He is best known for his officiating of the 1972 Summit Series between the Soviet Union and Canada. Career Kompalla began his ice hockey career as a player with Gwardia Katowice in 1951. He won three Polish junior championships with Gwardia Katowice before playing for Gornik Katowice. He emigrated to West Germany in 1958 and joined Preussen Krefeld in German league. He retired from playing in 1961. He joined the International Ice Hockey Federation as an official in 1970. In 1972, Kompalla was selected to officiate the 1972 World Ice Hockey Championships matches between Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union. Alan Eagleson
Robert Alan Eagleson (born April 24, 1933) is a disbarred Canadian lawyer, hockey agent and promoter. Clients that he represented included superstars Bobby Orr and Darryl Sittler, and he was the first executive director of the NHL Players Association (NHLPA), which was initially lauded for improving the bargaining power of National Hockey League (NHL) players. He is also well known for providing the opportunity for professional players to compete in international hockey, by promoting the 1972 Summit Series between Canada and the Soviet Union, and the Canada Cup (now the World Cup of Hockey). However, Eagleson was convicted of fraud and embezzlement and briefly imprisoned, after it was revealed that he had abused his position for many years by defrauding his clients and skimming money from tournaments.
