Frank Clement (racing Driver)
Frank Charles Clement (15 June 1886 – 15 February 1970) was a British racing driver who, along with Canadian John Duff, won the 1924 24 Hours of Le Mans. Career One of the " Bentley Boys", Clement was recruited by W.O. Bentley as a test driver for Bentley Motors. He was chosen by the company to drive in the inaugural 24 Hours of Le Mans in with John Duff in Duff's privately entered car. The only British team in the event, the pair finished the race in fourth after fighting for the lead for much of the race. Dudley Benjafield
Joseph Dudley "Benjy" Benjafield, MD (6 August 1887 – 20 January 1957) was a British medical doctor and racing driver. Career Benjafield was born in Edmonton, London, UK. He attended the University of London and received his MD from University College Hospital in 1912. Specializing in bacteriology, he served in Egypt during World War I and later used his expertise combating the great flu epidemic of 1918–1919. Benjafield had a passion for motorsports which started with boating, but moved on to automobiles in the 1920s, following the accidental destruction of his beloved motor launch. Upon purchasing a Bentley 3-litre, he started racing in 1924 and 1925. Benjafield's success led to him being offered to drive a company racer at the behest of Bentley founder W.O. Bentley. André Rossignol
André Rossignol (9 August 1890, Paris - 5 December 1960, Paris) was a French racing driver who became the first driver to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice, winning in consecutive years. Career Rossignol was a driver for the French Lorraine-Dietrich automobile company, and had been on their driving team since the inaugural Le Mans in . After having finished eighth and third the first two years, Rossignol and teammate Gérard de Courcelles won the event overall in . The following year, Robert Bloch was assigned to drive with Rossignol, and the race was won once again, with all three Lorraine-Dietrichs finishing on the podium. After Lorraine-Dietrich chose not to enter cars in the event, Rossignol was hired by Chrysler and partnered with Henri Stoffel. The two finished the race in third place. Gérard De Courcelles
Smaragd Marie Charles Henry Jullien "Gérard" de Courcelles (21 May 1889, Paris - 2 July 1927, Paris) was a French racing driver who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the French Lorraine-Dietrich automobile company, along with teammate André Rossignol. Career De Courcelles was a decorated fighter pilot during the First World War, receiving several citations and the Médaille militaire. De Courcelles began his career driving cyclecars in Grands Prix, but was eventually hired by Lorraine-Dietrich to enter the inaugural 24 Hours. The two drivers ran together for the next two editions of the endurance event until they succeeded in . The following year the two drove separate cars, with De Courcelles assigned to Marcel Mongin. René Léonard
René Auguste Maxime Léonard (23 June 1889 – 15 August 1965) was a French racing driver who, along with André Lagache, won the inaugural running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in . Career Léonard and Lagache were both engineers for the Chenard et Walcker automobile company, and were chosen to drive one of the three entries in the endurance event. Their "Sport" model finished by a four lap margin over another Chenard et Walcker. They drove together the next two years, but failed to finish either time. Driving for Chenard et Walcker, Léonard won the in 1924. He drove with Lagache to win the second edition of the Spa 24 Hours in 1925, and the pair also finished third in 1926. André Lagache
André Ernest Paul Lagache (21 January 1885 – 2 October 1938) was a French auto racing, racing driver who, along with René Léonard, won the inaugural 24 Hours of Le Mans in . Career Lagache and Léonard were engineers at automobile manufacturer Chenard-Walcker, Chenard et Walcker, and were chosen to drive their "Sport" model in the inaugural 24 Hours of Le Mans. The duo drove a distance of over 24 hours and beat another Chenard-Walcker by a four lap margin. Lagache continued to run Le Mans for Chenard et Walcker for the next two years, but was unable to finish the event again. Lagache also raced a Chenard-Walcker in the inaugural Spa 24 Hours in 1924, finishing second alongside André Pisart. He returned with Léonard to win the event in 1925, and finished third with Léonard in 1926. Lagache won the in 1925 and 1926. The 24 Hours of Le Mans () is an annual 24-hour Endurance racing (motorsport), automobile endurance race organised by the automotive group Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) and held on the Circuit de la Sarthe race track close to the city of Le Mans, the capital of the French department of Sarthe.
