Franco D'Attoma
Franco D'Attoma (February 24, 1923 – May 7, 1991) was an Italian entrepreneur and sportsman. He was the president of the " Perugia of miracles" team that remained unbeaten in the 1978-79 Serie A season. Biography Franco D'Attoma, born in Puglia into a wealthy family exporting agricultural products to the United States, attended a high school in Puglia before pursuing a degree in agriculture at the University of Perugia. In 1960 he joined the renowned clothing industry Ellesse as a partner, having become the brother-in-law of Leonardo Servadio. Servadio freely transferred some shares to him. D'Attoma was tasked with handling administration and personnel relations. He later ascended to management within Ellesse, before transitioning to sports management for AC Perugia. Collaborating with Spartaco Ghini, an industrialist, they laid the foundation for promotion to Serie A. During the 1978–79 season A.C. Perugia competed in Serie A and Coppa Italia. They completed the season unbeaten, but did not win the league title. Summary A.C. Perugia was the first team during the round-robin era to go through the season undefeated, although due to their 19 drawn matches, they finished second in the league. The campaign is best recalled as Perugia and the undefeated season of miracles. The Grifoni, displaying the prowess of the gryphon – the legendary beast their nickname is derived from – produced a feat never before achieved at the highest level of Italian football: going a season undefeated. Ellesse is an Italian sport apparel company originally founded in 1959 in Umbria, Italy. It has been part of the British Pentland Group since 1987. History Ellesse was founded by Leonardo "Mantis" Servadio on 19 June 1959 in Perugia, Umbria, Italy. The name Ellesse derives from Servadio's initials, "L.S.", which are spoken "elle" and "esse" in Italian. Ellesse grew in popularity during the 1970s as a producer of skiwear, such as quilted jackets and ski pants.
