Francis Luttrell (1628–1666)
Francis Luttrell (1628–1666) of Dunster Castle, Somerset, was an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1656 and 1666. Origins He was baptised on 1 November 1628. He was the heir of his elder brother George Luttrell (d. 1655) of Dunster Castle and the second surviving son of Thomas Luttrell (died 1644) of Dunster Castle by his wife Jane Popham, daughter of Sir Francis Popham of Littlecote, Wiltshire. His younger brother was Alexander Luttrell, MP for Minehead. Career He entered Lincoln's Inn in 1646 and was called to the bar in 1653. In 1655 he succeeded his elder brother George Luttrell (d. 1655) of Dunster Castle, Sheriff of Somerset in 1652, who died childless, having married three times.Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Landed Gentry, 15th Edition, ed. Francis Luttrell (1659–1690)
Francis Luttrell (June 1659 to 25 July 1690) of Dunster Castle in Somerset was a landowner and MP for Minehead from 1679 until his death. Personal details Francis Luttrell was baptised on 16 June 1659, second son of Francis Luttrell (1628–1666), and his wife Lucy Symonds, granddaughter of the politician John Pym. He had an older brother Thomas (1657-1670) and a younger Alexander (1663-1711). In July 1680, he married Mary Tregonwell, a wealthy heiress with an estate worth £2,500 per annum, much of which was spent refurbishing Dunster Castle, the family home. They had a son Tregonwell (1683-1703) and two daughters. Career Educated like other members of his family at Christ Church, Oxford, he was first elected MP for Minehead in March 1679, when still technically underage. He retained the seat until his death in 1690 and served as Deputy Lieutenant of Somerset from 1681 to 1687, Deputy Lieutenant of Dorset from 1685 to 1687, and Vice-Admiral of Somerset from 1685. Francis Fownes Luttrell
Francis Fownes Luttrell (9 February 1756 – 24 April 1823) was a British politician who was a member of parliament for Minehead from 1780 to 1783. He was also a commissioner for Taxes and later for Customs, before serving as chair of the board of Customs from 1813 to 1819. Personal life Early life Fownes Luttrell was born on 9 February 1756, the third son of Henry Fownes Luttrell (né Fownes) and his wife, Margaret, the daughter and heiress of Alexander Luttrell of Dunster Castle.Namier (1964a)Maxwell Lyte (1906), p. 535 Henry Fownes added Luttrell to his surname on his marriage of Margaret Luttrell and became the proprietor or Dunster, as well as a number of other manors.
