Frances Bardsley Academy for Girls is a non-denominational girls school and sixth form centre in the London Borough of Havering, England. The school educates girls between the ages of 11 and 18 (school years 7 to 13). Overview The school is located on Brentwood Road, Romford. In 2011 the school had 1308 pupils on its roll. The majority of pupils have white UK backgrounds though there has been a steady increase in girls from other ethnic and cultural backgrounds including African-Caribbean and those from the Indian subcontinent. The student body represents girls from many different council estates. Just over 7% of pupils claim free school meals which is below the national average. An academy school in England is a state-funded school which is directly funded by the Department for Education and independent of local authority control. Westlife
Westlife is an Irish pop vocal group formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1998. The group currently consists of members Shane Filan, Mark Feehily, Kian Egan, and Nicky Byrne. Brian McFadden was a member, until he left in 2004. The group temporarily disbanded in 2012 after 14 years of success and later reunited in 2018. Rochelle Eulah Eileen Humes (née Wiseman; born 21 March 1989) is an English singer and television presenter. Natalie Steward
Natalie Alwyne Steward (born 30 April 1943) is a former British Olympic swimmer. Swimming career Although Steward was born in Pretoria, South Africa, her family would later move to Bulawayo, Northern Rhodesia, for whom she would compete for at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games. Borough Group
The Borough Group was a collective of mid-20th-century artists from the Borough area of Southwark, South London. The group was associated with David Bomberg, who was then teaching a number of the artists that formed the group at the Borough Polytechnic, hence the name. Cliff Holden founded the Borough Group in 1946 with the purpose of developing the ideas of fellow artist Bomberg, who taught at the then Borough Polytechnic during the 1940s and 1950s, and was the leading light of the movement. Not to be confused with the later Borough Bottega (1953–c.1955), which was founded later by Bomberg as a consciously hierarchical organisation that emulated his understanding of a Renaissance-style workshop. Edna Mann
Edna Mann (1926 – 1985) was a British painter and co-founder of the Borough Group of artists. Mann was educated at Romford County High School for Girls and then studied art at the South-East Essex Technical College and School of Art. Here in 1942, she met the artists David Bomberg (1890–1957), who was teaching there, and Dorothy Mead. Mead and Mann were initially sceptical of Bomberg's teaching style but were won over by his unconventional approach. She won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art in 1945, but left after a year because of opposition to Bomberg's ideas there. Edna Mann and Dorothy Mead followed Bomberg to the City Literary Institute, where they met Cliff Holden, and then the Borough Polytechnic (now London South Bank University) from 1946.
