France Men's National Junior Ice Hockey Team
The French men's national under 20 ice hockey team is the national under-20 ice hockey team in France. The team represents France at the International Ice Hockey Federation's IIHF World U20 Championship's World Junior Hockey Championship Division I. History France made their first and only appearance at the top level at the 2002 World Junior Championships, when the French team defeated the likes of Germany, Ukraine, Austria, Norway, Latvia, and Poland, all of whom would eventually or saw top division competition. France defeated Ukraine 2-1 to secure a spot among the 10 national junior teams competing at the 25th IIHF-sanctioned World Junior Hockey Championships held in Pardubice, Czech-Republic in 2001-02. France opened their first game against Canada and lost 15-0, which still stands as their largest margin of defeat. Fédération Française De Hockey Sur Glace
The French Ice Hockey Federation (french: Fédération française de hockey sur glace (FFHG)) is the governing body of ice hockey in France, as recognized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). It was founded in 2006 after separation with the Fédération française des sports de glace (English: French Ice Sports Federation). For the first ten years, the federation had its offices in Issy-les-Moulineaux, Hauts-de-Seine. In 2016, it moved to a new national training center in Cergy, Val-d'Oise. It manages both the amateur and professional games in France, as well as the national teams on junior and senior levels. France is a founding member of the IIHF. Luc Tardif served as the inaugural president of the federation from its inception in 2006 to 2021. Upon his election as president of the IIHF, he was succeeded by Pierre-Yves Gerbeau. The 1980 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships (''1980 WJHC'') was the fourth edition of the Ice Hockey World Junior Championship and was held from December 27, 1979, until January 2, 1980. The tournament was held in Helsinki, Finland. The Soviet Union won its fourth consecutive gold medal, while Finland won the silver, and Sweden the bronze.
