Four (Bloc Party Album)
''Four'' is the fourth studio album by British rock band Bloc Party. It was recorded in late 2011 and early 2012 at Stratosphere Sound, New York City, with producer Alex Newport. Newport also produced ''Wreckonomics''—the EP of bassist Gordon Moakes' side project, Young Legionnaire. It was released on 20 August 2012 on independent label Frenchkiss Records, and was made available to stream the week preceding its release. The album peaked at number 3 in the UK Albums Chart, and at number 36 on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart in the United States. It is the last album featuring the original line-up with Gordon Moakes and Matt Tong. The band recorded the album using a more guitar-oriented sound, reminiscent of their debut album, '' Silent Alarm''. Bloc Party
Bloc Party are an English Rock music, rock band that was formed in London, England, London in 1999 by co-founders Kele Okereke (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, piano, sampler) and Russell Lissack (lead guitar). Their first four albums all featured Gordon Moakes (bass, keyboards) and Matt Tong (drums), who have since left the band. Their current lineup also contains Louise Bartle (drums, percussion) and Harry Deacon (bass, synthesizers). Their brand of music, whilst rooted in rock, retains elements of other genres such as electronica and house music. Upon their formation at the 1999 Reading and Leeds Festivals, Reading Festival by Okereke and Lissack, the band went through a variety of names before settling on Bloc Party in 2003. The ''Billboard'' 200 is a record chart ranking the 200 most popular music albums and EPs in the United States. It is published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine to convey the popularity of an artist or groups of artists. Sometimes, a recording act is remembered for its " number ones" that outperformed all other albums during at least one week. The chart grew from a weekly top 10 list in 1956 to become a top 200 list in May 1967, acquiring its existing name in March 1992. The Boxer (Kele Album)
"The Boxer" is a song written by Paul Simon and recorded by the American music duo Simon & Garfunkel from their fifth and final studio album, ''Bridge over Troubled Water'' (1970). Produced by the duo and Roy Halee, it was released as a standalone single on March 21, 1969, but included on the album nine months later (at the time, songs that had been released this far ahead were rarely included on the next studio album). The song is a folk rock ballad that variously takes the form of a first-person lament as well as a third-person sketch of a boxer. The lyrics are largely autobiographical and partially inspired by the Bible and were written during a time when Simon felt he was being unfairly criticized. Rowland Kelechukwu "Kele" Okereke (born 13 October 1981), also known :wikt:mononym, mononymously as Kele, is an English singer, songwriter, and musician. He is best known as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the indie rock band Bloc Party. Additionally, he has released six studio albums as a solo artist. Early life Okereke was born in Liverpool on 13 October 1981, the son of British Nigerians, Nigerian immigrant parents. He is of Igbo people, Igbo descent and was raised Catholic in Edinburgh and London. In his teenage years in London, he attended Trinity Catholic High School, Woodford Green. Ash are a Northern Irish Rock music, rock band formed in Downpatrick, County Down in 1992 by vocalist and guitarist Tim Wheeler, bassist Mark Hamilton and drummer Rick McMurray. As a three-piece, they released mini-album ''Trailer (album), Trailer'' in 1994 and full-length album ''1977 (Ash album), 1977'' in 1996. This 1996 release was named by ''NME'' as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Pin Me Down
Pin Me Down were a pop/electronica/rock side project of guitarist Russell Lissack, of the British band Bloc Party, and guitarist/singer Milena Mepris. The band was managed by Robt Ptak, who had previously worked with Mepris in Ptak's project Artificial Joy. The band made their live debut as a 5–6 piece in May 2008 in London, supporting Yeasayer. Their first single "Cryptic" appears on ''Kitsuné Maison Compilation 5'' as track number 5. Kitsuné also released a remix single of Pin Me Down's "Cryptic" in June 2008, which included remixes by Paul Epworth, James Ellis, Lissack himself, and others. Russell Lissack
Russell Lissack is an English musician. He is the lead guitarist of London-based indie rock group Bloc Party, whom he founded with Kele Okereke in 1999. He released a self-titled album with side project Pin Me Down in 2010, and was a touring member of Ash from 2010 to 2011. Early life Lissack grew up in Chingford in East London. He had some piano lessons as a child, but did not pursue music until he began guitar lessons at age 16, soon meeting other musicians including Bloc Party co-founder Kele Okereke. He studied at Bancroft's School and did A-levels at Epping Forest College before attending the London South Bank University. Lissack said in 2010 that his interests would switch between dance music and rock music depending on the quality of each genre at any given time. Wichita Recordings is an independent record label located in London, founded in 2000 by Mark Bowen and Dick Green. Its most notable signees include Bloc Party, The Cribs, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Best Coast, Los Campesinos! and Peter Bjorn and John. The label signed Clap Your Hands Say Yeah for a UK distribution deal for the group's debut album. They also signed the UK producers Simian Mobile Disco for the UK. "One More Chance" is a 2009 single by British band Bloc Party. It was released on 10 August 2009. In interviews Kele Okereke has stated that there was still some creative energy left after making ''Intimacy'' and this was the reasoning behind making "One More Chance". The song was released in order to coincide with the band's 'Bloctober' tour. The song received its first radio play on 18 June 2009 on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show.
