Foreigner is a British-American rock band formed in New York City in 1976. The band's original lineup consisted of vocalist Lou Gramm, guitarist Mick Jones (Foreigner guitarist), Mick Jones, drummer Dennis Elliott, keyboardist Al Greenwood, multi-instrumentalist Ian McDonald (musician), Ian McDonald (formerly of King Crimson), and bassist Ed Gagliardi. Foreigner is one of the List of best-selling music artists, best-selling bands of all time, with worldwide sales exceeding 80 million records, including 38 million in the US. Jones came up with the band name because he, Elliott, and McDonald were British, while Gramm, Greenwood, and Gagliardi were American, meaning at least half the members would be considered foreigners regardless of the country they were in. ''Foreigner'' is the debut studio album by British-American rock band Foreigner, released on March 8, 1977. It spun off three hit singles, " Feels Like the First Time", " Cold as Ice" and " Long, Long Way from Home". It also features album tracks such as "Headknocker" and "Starrider", the latter of which features a rare lead vocal from lead guitarist and co-founder Mick Jones. Writing and recording Jones had written several songs that wound up on ''Foreigner'' prior to the formation of the band. Lead singer Lou Gramm sang three of them – "Feels Like the First Time", "Woman, Oh Woman" and "At War with the World" in his audition to form the band. ''Foreigner'' is the seventh studio album released by British-Emirati singer-songwriter Cat Stevens in July 1973. The ''Foreigner'' series is a science fiction book series set in a fictional universe created by American writer C. J. Cherryh. The series centers on the descendants of a ship lost in transit from Earth en route to found a new space station. It consists of a series of semi-encapsulated trilogy arcs (or sequences) that focus on the life of Bren Cameron, the human ''paidhi'', a translator-diplomat to the court of the ruling atevi species. Currently twenty-two novels have been published between 1994 and 2023. Cherryh has also self-published two ebook short story prequels to the series, "Deliberations" (October 2012) and "Invitations" (August 2013). Cherryh calls the series " First Contact".
