Herbert James Carter
Herbert James Carter (23 April 1858 – 16 April 1940) was an England, English-born Australian schoolmaster and entomologist. __NOTOC__ Early life Carter was born at Marlborough, Wiltshire, England, the son of James Carter, farmer, and his wife Mary Ann, ''née'' Freeman. He was educated at Aldenham school, Hertfordshire, and at Jesus College, Cambridge, where he graduated B.A. in 1881. He was also a keen cricketer. Career Migrating to Australia (arriving on the ''Potosi '' on 19 February 1882) Carter was made assistant mathematics master at Sydney Grammar School, later becoming senior mathematics master. Jane Stephens
Jane Stephens (9 October 1879 – 11 December 1959) was an Irish zoologist who was considered a leading authority on Porifera, sponges in Ireland with specialised knowledge in other marine life who identified and named over 40 sponges new to science. From 1905 to 1920 she was employed in the Natural History Museum (Ireland), Natural History Division of the National Museum of Ireland working primarily on the collections of marine invertebrates, including taking part in the Clare Island Survey. Robert Lloyd Praeger testified to her knowledge of and work with Irish sponges stating that "Most of what we know of this group, whether marine or fresh-water, in Ireland, or off the Irish coasts, is due to her work." James Scott Bowerbank
James Scott Bowerbank (14 July 1797 – 8 March 1877) was a British Natural history, naturalist and palaeontologist. Biography Bowerbank was born in Bishopsgate, London, and succeeded in conjunction with his brother to his father's distillery, in which he was actively engaged until 1847. In early years astronomy and natural history, especially botany, engaged much of his attention; he became an enthusiastic worker at the microscope, studying the structure of Exoskeleton, shells, corals, moss agates, and flints. He also formed an extensive collection of fossils.
