Foothills is a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2015. History Foothills was created by the Canadian federal electoral redistribution, 2012, 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. It came into effect upon the call of the 42nd Canadian federal election, scheduled for October 19, 2015. It was created out of the bulk of Macleod (federal electoral district), Macleod, plus very small parts of Lethbridge (federal electoral district), Lethbridge (Waterton Lakes National Park) and Calgary Southwest (a small section north of Spruce Meadows). The name of the riding refers to the Rocky Mountain Foothills, which spread across southwestern Alberta from the Continental Divide of the Americas, Continental Divide at the British Columbia border. Claresholm
Claresholm is a town located within southern Alberta, Canada. It is located on Highway 2, approximately northwest of the City of Lethbridge and south of the City of Calgary. History The location was originally a watering stop for steam engines on the Canadian Pacific Railway line along the Macleod Trail when the trains first arrived in the area in 1891. The first settlers arrived in 1902, and the village was established in 1903. Claresholm was incorporated as a town in 1905, the year Alberta became a province. The community was named after Clare Niblock (1856-1942), a pioneer citizen. In 1913, Alberta established a demonstration farm and School of Agriculture at Claresholm. The first hospital in Claresholm opened in 1921 and was replaced by the current hospital in 1939. Spruce Meadows is a multi-purpose sports facility near Calgary, Alberta built by the Southern family which opened in 1975. The facility contains an equestrian show jumping complex that comprises . The current president and CEO of Spruce Meadows is Linda Southern-Heathcott, a former Olympian who competed in the 1996 Atlanta Summer Games for the Canadian Olympic Team. The facility is also the home venue of Cavalry FC of the Canadian Premier League, a soccer team owned by Spruce Meadows Sports and Entertainment. Waterton Lakes National Park is in the southwest corner of Alberta, Canada. The national park borders Glacier National Park in Montana, United States. Waterton was the fourth Canadian national park, formed in 1895 as Kootenay Lakes Forest Reserve. It is named after Waterton Lake, in turn after the Victorian naturalist and conservationist Charles Waterton. Its range is between the Rocky Mountains and the Prairies.
