Football At The 1971 Pan American Games
The sixth edition of the football tournament at the Pan American Games was held in five cities in Colombia: Cali (main city of the Games) Cartago, Buga, Palmira and Tuluá, from 31 July to 12 August 1971. Twelve teams divided in three groups of four did compete in a round-robin competition, with Mexico defending the title. Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero
The Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerrero is a football stadium, also used for athletics, concerts, and rugby sevens, in Cali, Colombia. The stadium is named to honor the poet Pascual Guerrero. The stadium and the sports complex that surrounds it are one of the finest and most modern sports complexes in Latin America, and led to references of Cali as the "Sports Capital of America". The "Pascual", as Cali's inhabitants usually call the stadium, replaced the now defunct ''Estadio Galilea'' which was located in the Versailles neighbourhood, where the first national athletics competition was held in 1928. The Pascual is still an important venue for domestic and international sporting events. With renovations made for the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia and additional suits and sky boxes, the stadium's capacity was reduced to 35,405 people. Mexico National Under-20 Football Team
The Mexico national under-20 football team represents Mexico in association football at the under-20 age level, and is controlled by the Mexican Football Federation (FMF), the governing body of football in Mexico. The team has won the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship a record thirteen times across its various formats. Mexico's best finish came at the 1977 FIFA World Youth Championship finishing as runners-up, the first edition of a FIFA-sanctioned youth tournament. They also managed a third-place finish at the 2011 edition. Alberto Jorge
Alberto Mario Jorge Espósito (1 January 1950 – 3 September 2024) was an Argentine football player and manager. He spent most of his career in Mexico, where he arrived in 1975 to play with León. As a manager, he won a Primera División title with Toluca as caretaker, coaching the team in the last four games of the tournament (the two legs of the playoffs semi-finals and the two legs of the final). Jorge is the only caretaker manager to have won a league title in the Liga MX so far. Club career Jorge started his professional football career with Racing Club de Avellaneda in 1970 as a midfielder. During his spell with Racing, Jorge played 167 matches and scored 39 goals. Osvaldo Agustín Batocletti Ronco (January 22, 1950 – May 17, 2019), known by audience and fans as ''Bato'', was an Argentine football manager and player, who played as a defender. Batocletti coached Tigres UANL and Querétaro F.C. He resided in Mexico from 1974 to 2019 and held Mexican citizenship. He died on May 17, 2019, from cancer.
