Fool's Gold (comics)
''Fool's Gold'' is an original English-language manga published by Tokyopop. It is written and illustrated by Amy Reeder. The first of a planned three volumes was released on July 11, 2006. There are currently no plans for the third, and final, volume to be printed. Plot Penny is a sophomore who starts a girls-only club whose mission is to help girls find love in gentlemen, rather than the school's jerks. At the club meeting, which are disguised as geology discussions, girls vote on which boys to decree "pyrites." The word becomes slang for a boy that seems good, but is ultimately cheap. If a boy is declared a pyrite, the girls throw darts into a doll, similar to voodoo. This is a vow to not date the boy. Girls also call to attention boys that are not jerks. The club completely changes the high school hierarchy. Girls begin to avoid jocks and date nerds. Penny finds herself as a sort of "queen bee" the other girls look up to. Amy Reeder Hadley
Amy Reeder (born August 25, 1980), formerly known as Amy Reeder Hadley, is an American comic book artist and writer known for her work on titles such as ''Fool's Gold'', ''Madame Xanadu'', ''Batwoman'', and ''Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur''. Early life Amy Reeder was born August 25, 1980. She is originally from Denver, Colorado and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Social Science Teaching. Career Amy Reeder was first discovered through the fourth of Tokyopop's Rising Stars of Manga competitions and later wrote and illustrated the OEL manga ''Fool's Gold''. and Reeder became the lead artist on the ''Madame Xanadu'' series from DC Comics' Vertigo imprint, with writer Matt Wagner. In a 2007 interview, she credited editor Brandon Montclare with helping her get her start in the comics industry. An original English-language manga or OEL manga is a comic book or graphic novel drawn in the style of manga and originally published in English. The term "international manga", as used by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, encompasses all foreign comics which draw inspiration from the "form of presentation and expression" found in Japanese manga. Pyrites
The mineral pyrite (), or iron pyrite, also known as fool's gold, is an iron sulfide with the chemical formula Fe S2 (iron (II) disulfide). Pyrite is the most abundant sulfide mineral. Pyrite's metallic luster and pale brass-yellow hue give it a superficial resemblance to gold, hence the well-known nickname of ''fool's gold''. Haitian Vodou
Haitian Vodou is an African diasporic religion that developed in Haiti between the 16th and 19th centuries. It arose through a process of syncretism between several traditional religions of West and Central Africa and Roman Catholicism.
