Fletcher-Vane Baronets
The Fletcher-Vane (previously Vane-Fletcher) baronetcy, of Hutton in the Forest in the County of Cumberland, was a title in the Baronetage of Great Britain.''The Baronetage and Knightage of The British Empire'', for 1882, by Joseph Foster. Published Westminster, Chapman and Hall Limited, 11 Henrietta Street, Covent Garden, 1882. It was created on 27 June 1786 for Lionel Vane-Fletcher. His son, the second Baronet, was a Member of Parliament for Winchelsea and Carlisle. He assumed the surname of Fletcher-Vane in lieu of Vane-Fletcher. Hutton in the Forest is a Grade I listed country house near the village of Skelton in the historic county of Cumberland, which now forms part of the modern county of Cumbria, England. It belonged to the Fletcher-Vane family from 1605 until 1931 when it became the property of the Barons Inglewood who were distant relatives of the Fletcher-Vane family. Hutton-in-the-Forest was originally a medieval stronghold and the Pele tower survives. Succeeding generations have altered and added to the house and both the outside and inside show a wide range of decorative styles from the seventeenth century to the present day. The gallery, a rare feature in the North of England, dates from the 1630s and contains early furniture and portraits. The hall, built in 1680, is dominated by the Cupid Staircase, which leads to a suite of mid-18th century rooms, including the Cupid Room. William Fletcher-Vane, 1st Baron Inglewood
William Morgan Fletcher-Vane, 1st Baron Inglewood (12 April 1909 – 22 June 1989), was a British Conservative Party politician. Early life Inglewood was the son of Lieutenant-Colonel the Hon. William Lyonel Vane, a descendant of Gilbert Vane, 2nd Baron Barnard. His uncle Henry Vane had succeeded as ninth Baron Barnard in 1891 on the death of his distant relative Harry Powlett, 4th Duke of Cleveland and 8th Baron Barnard. Inglewood's mother was Lady Katherine Louisa Pakenham, daughter of William Pakenham, 4th Earl of Longford (hence Frank Pakenham, 7th Earl of Longford, was his first cousin). On 9 April 1931, shortly before his 22nd birthday, he assumed by deed poll the additional surname of Fletcher, and subsequently inherited the estates of Hutton that were then in the possession of the Fletcher-Vane baronets under the control of trustees. Sir Henry Ralph Fletcher-Vane, 4th Baronet
Sir Henry Ralph Fletcher-Vane (13 January 1830 – 1908) was the eldest son of Sir Francis Fletcher-Vane, 3rd Baronet, and his wife, Diana Olivia (née Beauclerk). He was a Deputy Lieutenant and Justice of the Peace for Westmoreland and Cumberland and appointed High Sheriff of Cumberland in 1856.Debrett's Baronetage, Knightage and Companionage, 1905. Sir Francis Fletcher-Vane, 3rd Baronet (29 March 1797 – 15 February 1842), was a British landowner and aristocrat who served as High Sheriff of Cumberland in 1837.E. M. It was created on 30 June 1964 for the Conservative politician William Fletcher-Vane. He was the son of Lieutenant-Colonel the Hon. Winchelsea (UK Parliament Constituency)
Winchelsea was a parliamentary constituency in Sussex, which elected two Members of Parliament (MPs) to the House of Commons from 1366 until 1832, when it was abolished by the Great Reform Act. History Boundaries Winchelsea was a Cinque Port, rather than a parliamentary borough, but the difference was purely a nominal one, and it was considered an egregious example of a rotten borough.
