The fire departments in Delaware are members of the Delaware Volunteer Firemen's Association, with the exception of the fire brigades and airport fire departments. Holloway Terrace is an unincorporated community in New Castle County, Delaware, United States. Holloway Terrace is located on the outskirts of the city of Wilmington along Delaware Route 9 and Interstate 295, southwest of the Port of Wilmington. Hockessin () is a census-designated place (CDP) in New Castle County, Delaware, United States. The population was 13,527 at the 2010 census. History Hockessin came into existence as a little village in 1688 when several families settled in the area. The village was named after the Lenape word ''hokes'', meaning good bark or good bark hill. There is a second and more likely origin for the name. While the word Hockessin does look like a Native American word, the name Hockessin did not show up on any early maps until many years after the Hockessin Meeting House was built and what is now the Village of Hockessin was never settled by the Native Americans, while they did have a hunting camp nearby. Elsmere is a town in New Castle County, Delaware, United States, bordering the city of Wilmington along Wilmington's western border. According to the 2010 Census, the population of the town is 6,131. History Elsmere dates back to 1886 when real estate developer Joshua Heald bought farmland and converted it into houses, building the first suburb in northern Delaware. The community was built at an intersection of railroad lines and allowed working-class families easy access to Wilmington. Trolley lines were later built leading to Elsmere. In 1909, Elsmere was incorporated as a town. During the 1910s, the Delaware State Fair Association purchased land and built a new fairgrounds within Elsmere's town limit.
