Edward Bernds
Edward Bernds (July 12, 1905May 20, 2000) was an American screenwriter and director, born in Chicago, Illinois. Career While in his junior year in Lake View High School, he and several friends formed a small radio clique and obtained amateur licenses. In the early 1920s, there was considerable prestige for amateur operators to have commercial radio licenses, and Bernds was in a good position to enter broadcasting when he graduated in 1923, a year when radio stations began to be established all over Chicago. He found employment — at age 20 — as chief operator at Chicago's WENR. When talking pictures began in the late 1920s, Bernds and broadcast operators like him relocated to Hollywood to work as sound technicians in "the talkies". After a brief period at United Artists, Bernds resigned and worked at Columbia Pictures, where he functioned as sound engineer on many of Frank Capra's classics in the 1930s. Maxine Gates
Maxine Gates, born in March 3, 1917, and died in July 27, 1990, in Hebron, Nebraska, is an american actress who appeared in over 35 films between 1945 and 1972. She is best known for her appearances in several 1950s-era Three Stooges films such as '' Goof on the Roof'', '' Husbands Beware'' and '' Muscle Up a Little Closer''. Due to her rotund figure (reportedly, Gates weighed 250 pounds), she was often cast as a love interest who often intimidated her husband or boyfriend. During World War II, Gates performed in night clubs and stage shows and was acclaimed for her singing and dancing. In the course of these performances, Gates kissed male audience members on the cheek, and kissed 7,000 men in seven months. After retiring from acting in 1972, Gates ran a self storage business in Van Nuys, California. Eugene Oliver Edgar Stutenroth (January 8, 1903 – July 19, 1976), known professionally as Gene Stutenroth or Gene Roth, was an American film actor and former theater manager. He appeared in more than 250 films over three decades. Early years Roth was born in Redfield, South Dakota. He was the son of a German father and a Swedish mother, who raised their three sons after the father left the family. Roth finished high school in 1920 and became an expert machinist, specializing in repairing and installing pipe organs. These were commonly featured in movie theaters to accompany silent movies, and Roth's constant exposure to theaters prompted him to become a film exhibitor himself. Film Gene Stutenroth became a successful manager of movie theaters for Fox and Warner Bros., in Brooklyn, New York; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Burlington, New Jersey. George Harrington Lloyd (November 5, 1892 – August 15, 1967) was an American vaudevillian and character actor. Born in Edinburg, Illinois, Lloyd appeared in over 270 films between 1932 and 1956. Career In the late 1920s, Lloyd had his own vaudeville troupe. Lloyd appeared in the Three Stooges short subject '' Pardon My Clutch'' (1948) as the angry gas station attendant. He was also Squid McGuffy, café owner, in '' Crime on Their Hands'' (1948) and its remake, '' Hot Ice'' (1955). Jason Nelson Robards (December 31, 1892 – April 4, 1963) was an American stage and screen actor, and the father of actor Jason Robards. Robards appeared in many films, initially as a leading man, then in character roles and occasional bit parts. Most of his final roles were in television. Life and career Robards was born on a farm in Hillsdale, Michigan, the son of Elizabeth (née Loomis), a schoolteacher, and Frank P. Robards Sr., a farmer and post office inspector who managed Theodore Roosevelt's 1912 Presidential campaign in Michigan. He was raised in Chicago, Illinois.
