''Feel'' is the fourth studio album by the American keyboard player George Duke, released on October 28, 1974, by MPS Records. The album reached No. 17 on the ''Billboard'' Top Jazz Albums chart. Overview Duke began experimenting with synthesizer orchestration on this album, which is considered the beginning of his unique style. The album has contributions from Flora Purim, Frank Zappa, John Heard, Airto Moreira and Leon "Ndugu" Chancler. John Heard (musician)
John William Heard (July 3, 1938 – December 10, 2021) was an American bass player and artist. His recording credits include albums with Pharoah Sanders, George Duke, Oscar Peterson, Count Basie, Zoot Sims, Ahmad Jamal, Frank Morgan, George Cables. His professional jazz performance career lasted from the 1960s to the early 2010s, during which he also worked as a visual artist, producing drawings, paintings, and sculptures. Background He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. He also played saxophone in his early years. He began playing bass at the age of 14. His professional career began in a band that included sax player Booker Ervin, drummer J.C. Moses, pianist Horace Parlan and trumpet player Tommy Turrentine. George Martin Duke (January 12, 1946 – August 5, 2013) was an American keyboardist, composer, singer-songwriter and record producer. He worked with numerous artists as arranger, music director, writer and co-writer, record producer and as a professor of music. He first made a name for himself with the album ''The Jean-Luc Ponty Experience with the George Duke Trio''. Wilfried Sätty (; born Wilfried Podriech; April 12, 1939 – January 31, 1982) was a German graphic artist best known for his black and white collage art. Biography Born in Bremen, Germany, Sätty lived through multiple Allied bombings of Germany during World War II. Sätty moved to San Francisco in 1965 where he got a job at Bay Area Rapid Transit as a draftsman. He died in 1982 from "a fall from a ladder while inebriated." Sätty's final work was published in 2007 by the recipient of his estate, architect and art historian Walter Medeiros, as ''Visions of Frisco: an Imaginative Depiction of San Francisco during the Gold Rush & the Barbary Coast Era''. The acoustic bass guitar (sometimes shortened to acoustic bass or initialized ABG) is a bass instrument with a hollow wooden body similar to, though usually larger than, a steel-string acoustic guitar. Leon "Ndugu" Chancler ( ; July 1, 1952 – February 3, 2018) was an American pop, funk, and jazz drummer. He was also a composer, producer, and university professor. Biography Early life Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on July 1, 1952, Leon Chancler was the youngest of seven children from the union of Rosie Lee and Henry Nathaniel Chancler. In 1960, the family relocated to Los Angeles, California. Chancler began playing drums when he was thirteen years old. He would publicly reminisce about being asked to leave a classroom for continuously tapping on the desk, only to be later heard tapping on the poles in the hallway. Airto Guimorvan Moreira (born August 5, 1941) is a Brazilian jazz drummer, composer and percussionist. He is married to jazz singer Flora Purim, and their daughter Diana Moreira is also a singer. Coming to prominence in the late 1960s as a member of the Brazilian ensemble Quarteto Novo, he moved to the United States and worked in jazz fusion with Miles Davis, Return to Forever, Weather Report and Santana (band), Santana.
