The Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan (FTUU), also known as the Trade Unions Federation of Uzbekistan (TUFU) is the sole national trade union center in Uzbekistan. It is the remnant of the previous Soviet trade union system, although it has lost some of its previous powers, such as state planning and enterprise management. Uzbekistan (, ; uz, Ozbekiston, italic=yes / , ; russian: Узбекистан), officially the Republic of Uzbekistan ( uz, Ozbekiston Respublikasi, italic=yes / ; russian: Республика Узбекистан), is a doubly landlocked country located in Central Asia. The General Confederation of Trade Unions or GCTU (russian: Всеобщая Конфедерация Профсоюзов, ''Vseobshchya Konfederatsya Profsoyuzov'' or VKP) is an international trade union confederation. Tashkent (, uz, Toshkent, Тошкент/, ) (from russian: Ташкент), or Toshkent (; ), also historically known as Chach is the capital and largest city of Uzbekistan. It is the most populous city in Central Asia, with a population of 2,909,500 (2022). It is in northeastern Uzbekistan, near the border with Kazakhstan. Tashkent comes from the Turkic ''tash'' and ''kent'', literally translated as "Stone City" or "City of Stones". Before Islamic influence started in the mid-8th century AD, Tashkent was influenced by the Sogdian and Turkic cultures. Trade involves the transfer of goods and services from one person or entity to another, often in exchange for money. Economists refer to a system or network that allows trade as a market.
