Doubting Thomas (Canadian Band)
Doubting Thomas was an industrial band formed by two members of Skinny Puppy: cEvin Key and the late Dwayne Goettel. Although considered a Skinny Puppy side project, nearly all the group's music is instrumental. The band shares its name with an American roots band, to whom they have no relation. History Key and Goettel began recording together as Doubting Thomas in 1987, but it was not until the duo had some extra time and label interest from Wax Trax! in 1989 that they were able to begin recording a formal album. In contrast to their material as Skinny Puppy and related side projects, Doubting Thomas was explicitly non-vocal, less structured, and "wandering" in form – Key characterized it as "'cryer music,' like music in a movie." Wax Trax! Records
Wax Trax! Records is an American independent record label based in Chicago. It began as a record shop in Denver, Colorado, opened by life partners Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher, who sold the store in 1978 and moved to Chicago. In November of that year, they opened a store under the same name in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. During the 1980s and 1990s, the accompanying record label became a strong presence on the industrial music scene as well as the punk rock scene in Chicago, and an outlet for European bands. The label was purchased by TVT Records in 1992 and was discontinued in 2001. In 2014, it was re-established by Julia Nash, daughter of co-founder Jim Nash. On February 6, 2025 the Commission on Chicago Landmarks unanimously voted to declare the old Chicago storefront a landmark. Kevin William Crompton (born February 13, 1961), known professionally as cEvin Key, is a Canadian musician, songwriter, producer, and composer. He is best known as a member of the industrial music group Skinny Puppy, which he co-founded in 1982 with singer Nivek Ogre. Initially a side project while he was with the new wave band Images in Vogue, Skinny Puppy quickly became his primary musical outlet after landing a record deal with Nettwerk Records in 1984. Dwayne Rudolph Goettel (February 1, 1964August 23, 1995) was a Canadian Electronic music, electronic musician, best known for his work in the industrial music group Skinny Puppy. Starting his career playing for a variety of acts around Edmonton, he joined Skinny Puppy in 1986 following the departure of keyboardist Bill Leeb. A classically trained pianist, he helped to broaden Skinny Puppy's sound with his extensive knowledge of equipment and Sampling (music), sampling. He assisted bandmate cEvin Key on a number of side projects such as The Tear Garden and Doubting Thomas (band), Doubting Thomas, and helped form the experimental electronic group Download (band), Download. He also created the independent record label Subconscious Communications with friend and colleague Phil Western as a means to release his solo work. Dave "Rave" Ogilvie is a Canadian record producer, mixer, songwriter and musician based in Vancouver. Ogilvie started his recording career as a mixing engineer at Mushroom Studios. He frequently collaborated with industrial band Skinny Puppy as both a band member and producer. He also worked as a producer, engineer and mixer on several projects with Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, including engineering and remixing NIN singles, co-producing Marilyn Manson's album '' Antichrist Superstar'' and remixing David Bowie's single "I'm Afraid of Americans".
