Family Hour Of Stars
''Family Hour of Stars'' is an American radio anthology series that was broadcast on CBS beginning on October 3, 1948, and ending on February 26, 1950. It was also known as ''The Prudential Family Hour of Stars.'' Background ''Family Hour of Stars'', which was sponsored by the Prudential Insurance Company of America, replaced ''The Prudential Family Hour'', a program that featured concert music but also included dramatic segments about composers' lives. The musical program had been on for seven years and had "a gradual erosion of audience". The sponsor began ''Family Hour of Stars'' "with no break in continuity" a week after the concert show ended. Truman Bradley (February 8, 1905 – July 28, 1974) was an actor and narrator in radio, television and film. Early years Bradley was born February 8, 1905, in Sheldon, Missouri. Although he wanted to be an actor, he followed his parents' desires and studied law. Career Radio Bradley began his career in the 1930s as a radio broadcaster. Working at WBBM in Chicago, Illinois, some considered him "the Mid-West's leading news commentator." He was selected by Henry Ford to be the announcer for the ''Ford Sunday Evening Hour'', for which he flew to Detroit, Michigan, each weekend. John Dunning (January 9, 1942 – May 23, 2023) was an American writer of non-fiction and detective fiction. He was known for his reference books on old-time radio and his series of mysteries featuring Denver bookseller and ex-policeman Cliff Janeway. Early life and career Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1942, Dunning moved to his father's hometown of Charleston, South Carolina, at the age of three. In 1964 he left his parents' home and moved to Denver, Colorado, where, after a time working as a stable hand at a horse racing track, he got a job at ''The Denver Post''. In 1970 he left the newspaper and took up writing novels, while pursuing a variety of jobs. Partly because of trouble with his publishers, in 1984 he stopped writing and opened a store specializing in second-hand and rare books called the Old Algonquin Bookstore.
