Falls Of Foyers
The Falls of Foyers (Scottish Gaelic: , meaning the smoking falls) are two waterfalls on the River Foyers, which feeds Loch Ness, in Highland, Scotland. They are located on the lower portion of the River Foyers, and consist of the upper falls, with a drop of and the lower falls, which drop . The River Foyers flows into Loch Ness on the south-eastern shore about half-way along its length, where the village of Foyers is sited. The falls are known for their grandeur, despite not being the highest in Scotland. In 2018, The Scotsman included the Falls of Foyers as one of the "Eleven most stunning waterfalls in Scotland". They had impressed visitors to the Highlands since the eighteenth century, including Robert Burns, the Wordsworths and Southey. is a reservoir in the traditional county of Inverness-shire in the Scottish Highlands. Its name literally translates from Scottish Gaelic as "Big Loch". It occupies much of the wide floor of Stratherrick which runs roughly parallel to Loch Ness, around to its southeast. She was active in the failed protests against the location of a smelting plant at the Falls of Foyers, near Loch Ness, in Inverness-shire. Foyers Hydropower Schemes
There are two hydropower schemes at Foyers, Highland, Scotland, which is located on the south-eastern shore of Loch Ness about half-way along its length. There is a conventional 5 MW hydropower scheme taking water from the River Foyers, and a 300 MW Pumped-storage hydroelectricity, pumped-storage hydro-electric scheme using Loch Ness as the lower reservoir and Loch Mhòr for the upper. The first hydropower scheme was built in 1895 by the British Aluminium, British Aluminium Company to power an aluminium smelting plant on the shore of Loch Ness.
