Falls City, Nebraska
Falls City is a city in and the county seat of Richardson County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 4,133 at the 2020 census, down from 4,325 in 2010 and 4,671 in 2000. History The site of Falls City is located on the north side of the Big Nemaha River, in the southeast corner of the state. The river in 1857 had banks and bed of rock and stone. The town was located near where the river flowed over a rock ledge called the "Falls of Nemaha", for which the town was named. The "falls" no longer exist due to changes to the river over the course of the 19th and 20th century. Falls City was founded in the summer of 1857 by James Lane, John Burbank, J. E. Burbank, and Isaac L. Hamby. The men were all Abolitionists and the city was established as a station on the Underground Railroad for escaping slaves on a section referred to as the Lane Trail. Falls City is a city in Polk County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,051 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Falls City is named after a waterfall ( Berry Creek Falls) in the Little Luckiamute River that passes through the center of town. In the past it was a lumbermill town and once had three mills in operation, a bank, hotel, soda shop, jail, and several grocery stores and bars. It formerly supported a large logging population and other population centers in the hills of the Coast Range, such as the smaller lumber-based community of Black Rock and the company-owned mill town Valsetz. Falls City is a city in Karnes County, Texas, United States. The population was 514 at the 2020 census. Falls City is near the location of a uranium tailings disposal cell, completed in 1994 under the terms of the 1978 Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act. The early settlers, predominantly Polish Catholics, founded the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in 1902. Geography Falls City is located in northwestern Karnes County, about southeast of the center of San Antonio, on the left (north) bank of the San Antonio River at (28.9807, –98.0196). Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 62.1 square miles (160.9 km), of which, 60.8 square miles (157.4 km) of it is land and 1.4 square miles (3.5 km) of it (2.17%) is water. Falls City Brewing Company was based in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. The company operated from 1905 until 1978. After the company closed the Falls City brand was purchased by differing groups of investors over the years. Falls City was a regional brand that was primarily available in and around Louisville and Evansville, Indiana. It was a light-bodied pale lager brewed with six row malted barley, corn or rice adjunct, and was lightly hopped. For many years, Falls City was the number one brand of beer sold in and around Louisville. Tavern signs still hang outside taverns around town from St. Matthews to Germantown. History The Falls City Brewing Company was organized in 1905 by local tavern and grocery store owners.
