Facit Catalog
The ''Facit catalog'' is a specialized postage stamp catalog for the countries of Scandinavia. First published in 1947, it is the most detailed and complete catalog available for philatelists interested in the stamps of Denmark, Faroes, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Greenland, Ã…land, and the Danish West Indies. Although published in Sweden, the language of the catalog is now English. Catalog content is developed by a committee of 20 leading philatelists. Beginning with the 2007 catalog, and following a trend among catalog publishers, images of the stamps are printed in color. Facit Catalog Sweden 2017
Facit (''Facit AB'') was an industrial corporation and manufacturer of office products including furniture. It was based in Ã…tvidaberg, Sweden, and founded in 1922 as ''AB Ã…tvidabergs Industrier''. Facit AB, a manufacturer of mechanical calculators, was incorporated into the corporation the same year. In 1932, the first ten-digit calculator was manufactured by Ã…tvidaberg Industries, it was named FACIT and became a great success. In the 1950s, Facit introduced a mascot character, a short, smiling man with a wizard's cap called "Facit Man". The character first appeared in the instruction manuals for Facit's calculators. The character lasted into the 1970s. By the early 1960s the corporation had a total of 8,000 employees with subsidiaries in over 100 countries, and the subsidiary Facit had come to dominate the business of the corporation. Danish West Indies
The Danish West Indies () or Danish Virgin Islands () or Danish Antilles were a Danish colony in the Caribbean, consisting of the islands of Saint Thomas with , Saint John () with , Saint Croix with , and Water Island. The islands of St Thomas, St John, and St Croix were purchased by United States in 1917 and became known as the United States Virgin Islands. Water Island was sold in 1905 to the Danish East Asiatic Company and bought by the U.S. Government in 1944. In 1996, it also became part of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Philately Of The Faroe Islands
Philately (; ) is the study of postage stamps and postal history. It also refers to the collection and appreciation of stamps and other philatelic products. While closely associated with stamp collecting and the study of postage, it is possible to be a philatelist without owning any stamps. For instance, the stamps being studied may be very rare or reside only in museums. Etymology The word "philately" is the English transliteration of the French "", coined by Georges Herpin in 1864. A postmark is a postal marking made on an envelope, parcel, postcard or the like, indicating the place, date and time that the item was delivered into the care of a postal service, or sometimes indicating where and when received or in transit. A stamp catalog (or stamp catalogue) is a catalog of postage stamp types with descriptions and prices. The stamp catalog is an essential tool of philately and stamp collecting. Stamp catalogs are part of philatelic literature. Similar catalogs of other collectible objects. such as matchboxes ( phillumeny) and postcards ( deltiology), have also been issued.
