FPS Justice Belgium
The FPS Justice (, , ), formerly the Ministry of Justice, is a federal public service of Belgium. It was created by royal order on 23 May 2001, as part of the plans of the Verhofstadt I Government (1999–2003) to modernise the federal administration. The transformation from a ministry into a federal public service was completed on 15 July 2002. The FPS Justice is responsible to the Minister of Justice. Organisation The FPS Justice is currently organised into three directorates-general: * Directorate-General for Judicial Organisation * Directorate-General for Legislation and Fundamental Rights and Freedoms * Directorate-General for Correctional Facilities Several independent organisations resort under the FPS Justice, such as the Gambling Commission. Royal Order (Belgium)
In Belgium, a royal decree (RD) or royal order ( in Dutch, arrêté royal in French, or königlicher Erlass in German) is a federal government decree implementing legislation, or exercising powers the legislature has delegated to the crown as secondary legislation. Under the Constitution of Belgium, the king cannot act alone. While the monarch is vested with executive power, it is exercised through his ministers. Hence, while Royal Orders are issued with the king's signature, they must be countersigned by a minister to be valid. In turn, the countersigning minister assumes political responsibility for the order. Its implementation usually begins on the date that it is published in the Belgian Official Journal. Verhofstadt I Government
The Verhofstadt I Government was the Belgian Federal Government, federal government of Belgium from 12 July 1999 to 12 July 2003. It was the first government headed by Prime Minister of Belgium, Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt (Flemish Liberals and Democrats, VLD). It consisted of the Flemish Liberals and Democrats (VLD), the French language, French-speaking Liberal Reformist Party (Belgium), Liberal Reformist Party (PRL), the Flemish Socialist Party – Different, Socialist Party (SP), the French-speaking Socialist Party (francophone Belgium), Socialist Party (PS), the Flemish Groen (political party), green party Green!, Agalev and the French-speaking green party Ecolo. The Belgian official journal (, , ) is the official journal or gazette of the Belgium, Kingdom of Belgium. It is where the official publication of laws, royal decrees, decrees, ordinances, and official notices are published. The publication is handled by the Federal Public Service Justice. Content and history Any new law or changes to it made by the government can only take effect once it has been published in the ''Staatsblad''/''Moniteur''. Other legal formalities about which the Belgian people need to be informed, including activities such as starting a business, are also published in this paper. The State Security Service (VSSE) (known in Dutch as ''Staatsveiligheid''; French: ''Sûreté de l'État'') is a Belgian intelligence and security agency. Established in 1830, it is the world's oldest intelligence service. The State Security is a civilian agency under the authority of the Ministry of Justice, while the military intelligence agency, the General Information and Security Service, operates under the authority of the Ministry of Defense.
