FINA Swimming World Cup
The World Aquatics Swimming World Cup (formerly known as the FINA Swimming World Cup) is an international series of swimming meets organized by World Aquatics (the international governing body formerly known as FINA). Launched in 1988, the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup is staged between August and November every year and attracts a high level of athletes due to the considerable prize money on offer. The event is traditionally held in short course (25m pool) format, with a switch to long course (50m pool) format in pre-Olympics years. Prior to the COVID hiatus in 2020 the event was being held in three clusters, totaling seven three day meets across seven different locations with prize money reaching US$2.5 million. The event resumed in 2021 as four meets each of three days duration, and the 2023 edition was staged as three meets each of three days duration. The 1988–89 FINA Swimming World Cup was the first of the series. It took place at eight Short course (swimming), short course venues in Europe and North America in November 1988 and February 1989. Alison Sheppard
Alison Sheppard, (born 5 November 1972) is a freestyle swimmer from Scotland. Swimming career She competed in five consecutive Summer Olympics for Great Britain, starting in 1988. She is a seven times winner of the British Championship in 50 metres freestyle (1991 and 1999–2004) and the 2003 100 metres freestyle. Sheppard was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2003 Birthday Honours for services to swimming. She retired from competitive swimming in 2005 and teaches swimming in Stirling in her own swimming school. Thomas Rupprath (born 16 March 1977 in Neuss) is an Olympic Games, Olympic swimmer from Germany, who is nicknamed Michael Groß, "The New Albatross". Biography He held the world record for the 50 m backstroke (Short course (swimming), short course) with a time of 23.27 seconds set on 31 November 2002. This was broken by Robert Hurley (swimmer), Robert Hurley of Australia on 26 October 2008. He also held the 50 m backstroke (long course) record between 7 July 2003 to 2 April 2008 with a time of 24.80 s. With a time of 54.16 over 100 m backstroke (second behind Helge Meeuw) Thomas Rupprath managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing. He also won the 100 m butterfly at the German trials. Martina Moravcová (born 16 January 1976) is a Slovak Medley swimming, medley, butterfly swimming, butterfly, and Freestyle swimming, freestyle Swimming (sport), swimmer. She made her international swimming debut in 1991 for Czechoslovakia, and went on to compete in five consecutive Summer Olympics (1992–2008). Glenn Edward Moses Jr. (born June 7, 1980) is an American former competition swimmer and breaststroke specialist who is an Olympic gold medalist, world champion, and former world record-holder. He represented the United States at the 2000 Summer Olympics, where he won a gold and silver medal. On January 23, 2002 in Stockholm, Sweden, Moses set a world record in the short course 100-meter breaststroke (57.47). In January 2002, Moses also set the world mark in the short course 200-meter breaststroke, which he lowered again with a time of 2:02.92 in Berlin on January 17, 2004.
