The baselines of the Philippines () are the set of geodesic lines completely encircling the Philippine archipelago from where the maritime entitlements of the country are measured. It was first established in 1961 by an act of the Congress of the Philippines which was further amended in April 2009 to optimize and conform it to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, to which the Philippines is a signatory. A total of 101 basepoints providing for 100 baselines were identified under Republic Act No. 9522, which identified Amianan Island as the northernmost, Frances Reef as the southernmost, Pusan Point as its easternmost and the Balabac Great Reef as the westernmost points of the main Philippine archipelago. Mavulis Island
Mavulis Island is the northernmost of the Batanes Islands and the Extreme points of the Philippines, northernmost island in the Philippines. It is part of the archipelagic Philippine province, province of Batanes Province, Batanes. The island is uninhabited, but it is garrisoned by the Armed Forces of the Philippines which constructed a shelter for local fishermen, a water desalination plant, a helipad, lighthouse, and a flagpole on the top of the hill on the island considered as the northernmost flagpole in the country. Mavulis Island is much closer to the Taiwanese mainland than the Philippine mainland of Luzon itself. Itbayat, officially the Municipality of Itbayat, (; Ilocano: ''Ili ti Itbayat''; ), is a municipality in the province of Batanes, Philippines. In the 2020 census, it had a population of 3,128 people. Sitangkai, officially the Municipality of Sitangkai (), is a municipality in the province of Tawi-Tawi, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 37,319 people. It is the southernmost place in the Philippines and is very close to Malaysia and Indonesia. It is called the "Venice of the South" due to the use of boats as primary transportation, although footbridges connect one house to another. Sibutu, Tawi-Tawi
Sibutu, officially the Municipality of Sibutu (), is a municipality in the province of Tawi-Tawi, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 34,243 people. History Due to an administrative error in the Treaty of Paris, while the remainder of the Philippines was ceded to the United States, Sibutu and Cagayán de Sulu were retained under Spanish Sovereignty until they were formally ceded to the United States upon the ratification of the Treaty of Washington on March 23, 1901. The municipality was created out of Sitangkai, Tawi-Tawi, by virtue of ''Muslim Mindanao Autonomy Act No. 197'', which was subsequently ratified in a plebiscite held on October 21, 2006. Caraga, officially the Municipality of Caraga (; ), is a municipality in the province of Davao Oriental, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 39,704 people.
